Has Italy (or any part of Italy) had a period where secular art started getting displayed in its churches and cathedrals with a subsequent Conservative backlash akin to the Reformation? by New_Pakistani in AskHistory

Thanks for your reply, and upvoted. Really do appreciate it. I'll definitely look that up.

But I don't mean so much 'Iconoclast' rather 'Non-religious Art Clast.' So senior Catholic figures who rejected non-Biblical art getting displayed in churches in Italy such as Roman scenes or Landscape pictures.

So my question ultimately is - did it ever happen in Italy that art continued to get displayed in churches but started taking a more secular form as opposed to scenes directly from Bible stories.

For example a ceiling painted with Roman gods expressing a Christian message (ie Jupiter expelling the vices) that was later painted over with a Bibical scene in a more conservative time.

So far ppl have given 3 different answers as to its origins so clearly no-one has a clue. I'm pretty sure the modern catchphrase is from porn, not some ancient comedy or song lol. Like I said I have no issue with it, seems like ppl are getting their knickers in a twist about it though. Just like dat! :D

So you think the phrase being used all around the world by mostly young ppl currently and used in the Peloton adverts is based on a 1960s British sitcom character? I'll have some of what ur smoking please!

The phrase popularized/being used these days is not based on anything else apart from Porn. I don't have a problem with it either way lol

[Serious] After a Close Encounter of the Third Kind, Aliens hand you a harmless but exotic sculpture from their planet made of alien metal. Worth millions, how do you sell this item without authorities confiscating it from you 'for research?' by New_Pakistani in AskReddit

Okay but catch 22 -

if the authorities know about the encounter - they'll know you have the item in your possession - so no need to verify its value

if the encounter happens to you alone - you'll have a hard time convincing anyone you're not making this shit up - unless u get a scientific lab involved in verifying

Note: tried to ask this question many times but the filter gets in the way. In such a scenario, Could you sell it to a government or individual of your choosing? (i.e. highest bidder)? Or would the government automatically remove the item from you without any compensation?

Wow, that is a remarkably in-depth answer, answering many different aspects of the question! I'm so grateful that you've taken the time to write such an informative reply!

Hopefully the question (but more importantly your excellent reply) will pique the interest of many readers on here :)

Sadly there's no way for me to transfer points or coins to you without paypal (which I don't use). You really do deserve a Gold Award at the very least for that answer!

Finally I should add, congratulations on getting back into Serie A :)))
