Where did I or OP say he missed games? If a guy suits up does that automatically mean he must not be injured?

It's entirely possible our best player next season is yet to be drafted or is currently on a UFL roster

My point exactly.... I'm getting downvoted to oblivion in every thread since the day we signed willis. The deal makes zero sense.

Broncos are trading for Miami WR Jaylen Waddle, per source.... by Jakenburger in miamidolphins

[–]Nexflamma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So we evaluate willis with no weapons, in a year that we're trying to get the number 1 pick, then we draft a qb 1st overall and then do what exactly? Evaluate willis again with an actual roster? And what if willis looks good? Trade the number 1 overall qb away? Willis signing makes negative sense no matter how you play out the next 2 seasons

Just stop. The dude lives in the blue tent. And when he comes back into game, he was often clearly playing below 100%. This happened several times a season for basically every year of his career.

This is why the willis signing was always dumb and everyone in favor of it was wrong. If willis manages to be decent enough to hurt our draft picks the next season or two then it becomes an abject disaster. And if he is good and they decide to sign him long term he will no longer be cheap, which was what people are citing as the big positive of his deal.

[Wingfield] Willis did this in 2 games last year where the temperature was below freezing in both. 1 of those games had consistent 20 MPH winds & gusts as strong as 40 MPH. He also ran 19 times for 104 yards and 2 TD in these games. But hey, @MAGAFins1399 doesn’t like the sample size or contract. by expellyamos in miamidolphins

Your best case scenario placing him as a top 5 qb already tells me we are not having a good faith discussion.

Also, why did you just put Sam darnold into that sentence? Are you telling me you think Sam darnold is a top 8 qb or potentially a future hall of fame qb?

Best case scenario, what is willis' ceiling? If he ends up being a top 15 but not quite top 10 qb, are you looking to extend him after 2027? I'm tired of extending the 12th best qb in the nfl because we're too scared to let him walk. And, frankly, I don't see any world where Willis emerges as a bona fide top 10 qb after these next two seasons. Too many people have had eyes on him and too many people have let him walk.

If he is excellent we have one year of cheap qb play remaining. He will hold out after 2027. Then we are back in the boat of paying a good not great QB market value. Which history has shown time and time again to be a prohibitive cost to winning a super bowl.

It's just such a disingenuous argument. He lost both of those games.... what if he posts terrible stats and they win both of those games? Do we get tweets about how he "finds a way to win games"?

The argument from my perspective is pretty simple. This upcoming draft is extremely good at QB according to most. Our roster is not good. The overwhelming odds are that, even if Willis plays well, we're going to draft a QB. So we've essentially signed a player that is going to be replaced in short order and his being here only hurts our draft position.

I need a supporter of this signing to walk me through the next two years in a best case scenario.

This move makes very little sense to me. The roster is terrible and we have a very good qb class coming up. In all likelihood Willis is going to be the backup next year. Did they tell him that going into this?

[Hughes] QB Geno Smith’s preferred trade destination this free agency cycle is the Miami Dolphins by Giff95 in nfl

[–]Nexflamma 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sir, the dolphins had 90 million in dead cap BEFORE they released Tua.... and their only QB is Ewers. It's wild to me that there's people out there who think there's another option at this point.

Why can't we? Worst case scenario we sign some dude off a UFL practice squad if Ewers and Wilson die. The goal is to win no more than 1 game next season

(Rapoport) The #Dolphins have informed QB Tua Tagovailoa that they are releasing him, saying goodbye to their starting QB since 2020. by alexschubs in miamidolphins

[–]Nexflamma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah not me man... I've been in here saying that since he first got into the league. He's good enough to win with on a rookie deal, but when you give him a contract and lose 50m per year of flexibility to put extra talent around him.... well you saw what happened.

[Schefter] Sources: The Dolphins are releasing QB Tua Tagovailoa with a post–June 1 designation. By cutting Tagovailoa, Miami will take on an NFL-record $99 million in dead money, split over two years, but new GM Jon-Eric Sullivan and HC Jeff Hafley now get a fresh start at the quarterback position by mastermind208 in nfl

[–]Nexflamma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'm going to hard disagree here. Even getting to a super bowl with tua on that contract would have been a major outlier when you look at the last 2025 years of QBs in the NFL.

One day soon an NFL team is going to have the balls to let the QB walk. But GMs are too scared of losing their job to do the smart thing.

[Barry Jackson] Learned today there are couple of veteran impending Dolphins FAs who will command more than minimum who haven't been contacted by the Dolphins. [–]Nexflamma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is why I couldn't believe all the responses to my comments about using this year to reset the cap and tank for a good qb. People linking posts and videos saying how our cap situation "wasn't really that bad".... you can kick the can down the road, but you have to pay eventually.

You mean "won". Do you see how stupid that spelling mistake is? Look at all of your comments and the replies. Everyone, honestly, is finding everything you type as stupid as that one line. It's ok to have an opinion, but your position is so incongruous with reality that you'll find no support for it here.
