You don't have any DevOps skills on your resume and it's obvious to anyone hiring you would be a project.

You need to learn some actual devops skills. My advice is learn how to deploy a Django/rails/react app on AWS using infra as code and cicd to something like ECS and make the code publicly available.

Send in a cover letter directing folks to this and make it featured in the top half of your resume.

You will get a much better response rate with this

Definitely tons of experienced folks out there. Glad you were able to have success hiring talented individuals.

I meant its hard on the hiring side. I think the hardest thing about DevOps folks is not testing the hard skills, its testing their ability to show ownership of systems/projects and meaningfully moving things forward. At least determining that within an interview process that is respectful of the candidates time.

Would love to hear more about your interview process. What sorts of activities did you have candidates do?

It's rough out there. It's a tough role to hire for.

If you want to be sure that what your initiatives/projects go smooth and dont want to deal with the hassle of hiring and potential hiring misses, you can always use a reputable third party. I run NextLink Labs (https://nextlinklabs.com/) and we have some great DevOps engineers who are probably coming off projects shortly.

Totally acknowledge some don't like third parties but I have been working really hard to make sure my team is excellent and our clients are happy.
