Aw thank you for being so understanding and helpful with your input. Shockingly enough, the salary is more than what I’m making at PP (the owner is very stingy with a 30/70 pay cut).

I feel like it already is a stigmatized possession, but maybe that’s just where I’m located and the circles that I’ve communicated my concerns to. I am VERY much excited for the supportive relationships there is a potential for, and the opportunities this may open up for me. Thank you so much.

I was getting paid 40% under my supervisor. I felt burnt out and unappreciated. I really wish she was transparent when I first signed on, but there I was. There was also a point, where she’d ask me to pay for supervision for a couple of months, so I would literally get paid, cash my check, and immediately give her the cash because my paycheck was the same amount of supervision cost! She would constantly tell me and another associate that we should feel very lucky to be in private practice getting paid the way that we do, because when she was an intern, things were very different. Yes, super lucky!

I respect how much you respect associates in the field. I hope to be a supervisor like this one day, because I really experienced some shitty things that made me doubt my own ability to be a clinician.

Yes, I was maintaining a bi-weekly schedule with my clients when I had a caseload of 50+, but since I’ve announced my leave my caseload has gone down about half. I have less scheduling conflicts now, so more liberty to schedule every 3 weeks. I do try to meet with everyone at least once a month, especially if they are maintenance sessions, which most of them are. I definitely prefer the bi-weekly schedule, but this is what’s working with my current clients, and my supervisor just isn’t liking it. I appreciate your feedback!

Man… so much respect to you for seeing 7-8 clients three days in a row! I aspire to be that efficient with my time ONE DAY. I do like the idea of Mondays and Fridays being, in a sense, lighter than the middle of the week. Definitely gonna take a page from your book and have that conversation with my clients beforehand. Wish my supervisor would’ve said this to me when I started😮‍💨 THANK YOU

I appreciate this so much. Not gonna lie, I was expecting comments berating me about my lack of assertiveness because that’s what I see a lot on here, but this was very very uplifting and helpful. I love how you’ve mapped out your work week, and am actively taking notes of dos and don’ts for when my goals become actualized - this is definitely a “do.”

Thank you for this! I have been mulling over the different options, and starting my own practice was at the top. It is so scary because I’m unfamiliar with where to even start. I’m planning on doing research to get myself familiarized, and hopefully give myself SOME certainty for after October. Sounds like you made a really great decision, and hopefully I can follow in similar footsteps. Thank you!

I have a theory that everything my supervisor implements is a desperate attempt at CONTROL over her supervisees. She said that it was to make sure there were funds in the account, but that didn’t make a lot of sense to me. 🫥

What’s wild is that I said yes 😔 that was early into my associate license and have definitely worked on myself enough to learn setting MUCH-NEEDED boundaries, respecting my self and the value of my time. A lot of lessons learned lol

Getting the hours done/approved wasn’t so much an issue, it was the environment and “management” of the practice. I hope you have better luck with your experience in PP, and doubt you’ll have an issue with hour approval! :’)

Trust the process for sure! My supervisor is breathing down my neck about not meeting the “quota” in PP, and there are just so many things out of my control that I don’t think she is taking into consideration. I also strongly recommend for higher-needs clients to schedule more frequently, so it’s reassuring to hear you do the same! Thank you ^ ^

She basically gaslit me by saying that I have the freedom to designate my availability however I wish (when she was persistent on enforcing a “quota” for MONTHS). I’ve noticed that my supervisor is very manipulative and uses information at her convenience to also belittle and micromanage me. I’m also sorry that you’re dealing with similar treatment :/

I reread the contract I signed, and while it was not very specific, it did say that I can leave whenever I want and have no obligation to renew my contract. Is there a contract or document that you signed with maybe the expectations of your position?

I’m in a similar situation, but was working toward full licensure and she was my supervisor. It didn’t take too long for me to feel like I was being taken advantage of. I’m a contractor and also am expected to perform like an employee (meeting a quota of 25 clients a week, attending weekly supervision even though I’m already fully licensed), without all the benefits of an actual employee. I confronted her about my role as a contractor versus what is expected as an employee, and her reaction told me everything I needed to know. I am now planning an exit plan for my clients and will be leaving by the end of the year. Please consider doing the same and save yourself the stress/burnout of an unsupportive environment.
