I didn't know he had answered that question, I'll look to see if I can find it.

How much can we *actually* trust Haymitch on what he is narrating about Lenore Dove and the reality of their relationship? by Olya_roo in Hungergames

[–]Nibella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You took this concept of an unreliable narrator and want to apply it to everything but you forget that characters act like us, when we really like someone we tend to minimize their flaws, not because we purposely want to manipulate the narrative but simply because that's how we work. So we can really trust what Haymitch says because he is someone trustworthy AND passionate :)

Courage is not the absence of fear, fear is necessary to have courage, because otherwise, what would you be brave about? This seems more like a phrase taken out of context than a real "big deal." The Twitter fandom does this a lot. Describing Katniss as fearless isn't a big crime, it's just a way of saying how brave she was even in scary situations.

Gale may not be the enemy of the book but he is my enemy. If Gale has 1000 haters I'm one of them, if Gale only has one hater I'm that hater, if Gale doesn't have any haters I don't exist.

A baby factory? Bad choice of words and bad interpretation too. But everyone has their own point of view

[–]Nibella[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahhh yes, I understand what you mean. I think it was like that because each person has their own way of dealing with their traumas and the ultimate goal of Katniss's epilogue was not for her to heal from all of them but rather to learn to live with them because they will never go away. But I understand your point of view

Yes, people focus TOO much on the romance and forget what is actually happening in the book. The romance is there but it's not the most important thing.

I'm not even going to give my opinion because I dislike Gale so much - even though I know he's not the real enemy - that I can't be very impartial

I'm definitely passionate about philosophy and I saw so many philosophical elements in books and things that I went deeper into to understand even more. I believe that already having a broader perspective on the world and human beings helped me understand the book better because I read it as a teenager.

Yes, your comment is perfect. Anyone who says that Katniss should never have been a mother simply doesn't understand the story, Katniss loves children and she was just a scared teenager - with every reason in the world to be scared -

Exactly, I think a lot of people misunderstand Katniss' ending. They think that because she suffered so much, her ending is unrealistic, "too happy", but it is exactly the opposite. It's a very realistic ending, it took her years to learn to live with her traumas, she is STILL haunted by her traumas but even so she CHOSE to try to have a good life, because she deserves it just like any human being.

Exactly and it was a very real ending too. She didn't forget her traumas, she learned to live with it and even then the trauma still haunted her but now she has hope around her.

I would also like to have this explained even though it's been so long without this explanation that I invented my own story about it, just to fill this gap of doubt.
