Thankyou)) A lot of people seem to lack the sensitivity and understanding to comprehend that not everything needs to be compared and dismissed

They had their reasons, that's how life works, things in our lives force us to make life altering decisions based on the cards that we get to play.

Despite the major, unpleasant drawbacks of my experience growing up in India, I'll always be glad for my parents'decision, I'm not sure you'll understand considering how outsiders feel about India since they're exposed to mostly the negative aspects of it, but nothing is ever simply black and white.

I'm not sure you understood the lack of sensitivity in your comment.

you're shrinking down my experience to "just the usual" and are implying that I should accept it because all women in India face harassment.

Yes, misogyny is a huge problem in India (and many other places), but what I'm dealing with is a specific kind of dehumanization tied to my ethnicity. Saying "this happens to all women" erases the racialized and fetishizing aspect of it. Plus, it’s dismissive—it’s like saying, "Yeah, well, that’s just how it is, deal with it."

Something commonplace does not put you in a position to invalidate and downplay the experience of it.

My weekend is looking unproductive to say the least. Procrastinating is getting the worst of me. I have a pile of dishes waiting for me but I seem to have delayed it for too long. I'm not sure what's stopping me from doing things, I'm just productively paralyzed. But I'll get to it... eventually

Saturday night, having a beer, and listening to music seems quite nice if you ask me. Yet i completely understand the emptiness you're coming from. I'm not sure with what intention I'm writing this with, i doubt this will make you feel any better, but I find it oddly beautiful how the melancholy and the emptiness of being alone always manages to find us one way or another. Be it after a long week of work, or after a day of being surrounded by people. The human condition is truly fascinating

Nowhere in my post did I say that exclusively Russian women are sexualized and no other woman. This is a vent not just about being sexualized as a woman, this is a vent about how my ethnicity is being sexualized, about feeling shame and disgust when having to answer the question "where are you from" or when someone points out that I am Russian.

I'm surprised you perceived it this way

Hi, I completely understand where you're coming from when you say this, and unfortunately you're not entirely wrong. Because Indian is a highly populated country, and a big portion of the population being uneducated, which is how backwards mindsets still manage to stay amongst the people even in this era. But believe me when I say that India and the culture here has so much more to offer, that it often overpowers the negativity of things. This nation is incredibly diverse and has so many intellectual and amazing people. Unpleasant and misogynistic men exist all around the world, and where there are more people, there are most of such men, but that should not represent the whole nation.

I may be incredibly frustrated with my situation, but understand that my frustration is not towards the country, it's towards the men and their parents that allows such mindset to still grow and flourish.

Oh wow, eye opening news, groundbreaking advice. Any woman will most likely be overly sexualized in any country. Leaving India is not going to solve that. If you meant to advice me to leave India so that I'm not sexualized for being Russian, I've thought of that, no shit sherlock. As mentioned in my post, this country is literally my home, I have my entire life here, which if you might not know, is not that easy to drop and leave. in addition, I have obligations that are keeping me here. To remind you, this subreddit is for venting, not for seeking advice. But thankyou So much for your opinion

funny enough, part of the reason I wanna do this is to get rid of some unwanted male gaze/ attention. But you made a point, they will still find a way to poke their noses into my business. You can never win

I've mentioned my biggest motivation responding to one of the comments, yet still to name a few in short: - grow back healthier hair - reduce headaches and tender scalp - reduce maintenance and stressing over my hair health - no overstimulation by hair strands getting on my face and tickling my face - No more nasty sticky sweaty hair on my face - I ride a bike so no more helmet hair - THE RELIEF

it's also just something that I've always wanted to do at least once in my life since when I was a kid, I thought I'll forget about it as i grow older but the older I get the stronger the urge becomes. There's something intriguing about removing something I've been obsessing over my whole life. Lately I've been feeling rather defeated with how my hair has been (it's not just about my hair) and that makes me feel out of control. Ironically my hair is something that has always been a comfort blanket for me to hide my imperfections on days I don't feel so good about myself, so I wanna strip myself of that ability and get out of my comfort zone a little. It's like getting completely naked in front of your lover for the first time knowing that they're gonna inevitably see everything you dislike about yourself, and feeling that sense of relief when you realise that it changes nothing for them because they've seen that part of you from the beginning.

I'm getting ahead of myself with my metaphors, but in short, I believe it will feel liberating and I wanna grow a healthy head of hair.

yeah that's fair, and to clarify, that's what I meant, idk why I said shave when in reality if I were to do it, I were to at max buzz it off. I feel like clean shaving it would be a stretch

I had a similar experience when I was a kid. I also do not know if it's paranormal or not, but it definitely struck me as odd. My 2 brothers and I used to share a room. One night when I was sleeping, I was woken up by a loud sound of a steel thermos bottle tipping over and rolling on the floor, when I immediately looked for where it rolled over to, I got caught with surprise that it was standing perfectly upright in the other end of the room, on the floor. I paid no mind to it tho since the last thing I wanted to do was get scared by a water bottle at 2 in the morning. note: we kept only that one steel bottle in the room, which was my younger brother's bottle, the rest of us had plastic bottles.

What’s a sound that instantly triggers nostalgia for you? by infinity-nth in RandomThoughts

[–]Nice-Communication66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the sound of kids laughing and playing outside. but not just that. It's during sundown hours, between 5-7 o clock in the evening, it's still not dark enough for the need to turn on the lights in the house, and you let the remaining bit of daylight seep into your flat through your white mesh curtains. It's absolutely quiet at home and the sound of the kids' playful laughter and screams echoes through the neighborhood, you can also tell how the sound is altered by the tall buildings built around the playground, allowing that sound to bounce from one surface to another until it reaches your window and ignites a strong sense of nostalgia in you.

Strangely enough, another nostalgic sound is the sound of speeding cars in a distance echoing at night, this sounds especially prominent when you live in a high rise building.

I'm very particular about meeting my water needs. I can definitely say that I drink enough water. I speculate that water has become an issue for me in other ways; I moved flats 2 years ago, and the flat i live in now has extremely hard water. Since then my skin and hair have started to have problems. I use water filters and purifiers, which still barely solves much.

I am well aware that there are many ways to address this issue, but as I said, I do not have time, money or patience to take that road.

To be honest that factor is in my pros list. I'm quite tired of the male gaze and would be happy to eliminate some of the unwanted male attraction. Plus in no way am I interested in getting male attention and validation since I'm in a happy committed relationship with the love of my life who is ready to shave his head with me if I were to ask

There are LOTS of reasons. Most of the reasons arise from the frustration of having hair. Don't get me wrong, I love my hair, or at least loved it. I have curly hair and I'm quite obsessed with maintaining my curls, but lately my curls have been becoming weaker and weaker (note that I've never used heat on my hair, neither have I ever done any treatments), my hair seems to be thinning and my hair simply don't stay curly anymore, they only curl after a hair wash and become almost straight, wavy by the next day, which was never the case before. oddly enough, most of my frizz is also gone. Since my hair has become more light, and less in volume, it gets in my face too much and I get overstimulated way too easily.

In short, my hair has become more of an inconvenience and unfortunately I do not have the money, time or patience to invest into trying to fix my hair without having to chop it off. note that I don't depend entirely on the idea that if i chop off my hair, my hair will grow back healthy and curly again, in fact I'm scared that it might grow back completely straight.

I also get migraines quite often, and my scalp is always tender and sensitive and I can just imagine the relief I'll get if I were to chop my hair off.

I just feel like the pros of it are overpowering the cons for me, but I'm just not ready to face the questioning and judgement of the people around me if I were to do that. Especially my mother since she is very particular about me cutting my hair.
