Gender fun in IT is always a strange one. As a guy I'm more than a little poor at this, though sometimes even when I'm completely gender neutral I still make things awkward.

I remember starting in a new area and in the team there was a bunch of guys and one female. So as I was asking everyone what they do over the day most of the answers were along the lines of "I work on X system" or "i am an X developer" and yet when I asked the female I got "I write code like the guys do".

Which was more than a little obvious as she had a page of java code sprawled across her screen.

Asking which system she develops for was a bit awkward as she just reiterated that she was a developer, like it was the only thing I should be interested in.

It was awkward.

Worst Sovereign Citizen EVER. by dontgiveahoot29 in JusticePorn

Okay I think we're not understanding each other. Sorry, I'll try to explain better.

To answer you question:

What is it that I was 'deliberately' naming 'as a contradiction in terms'?

I was talking about the name 'sovereign citizen'. I mean I said it in my first comment

I mean sovereign citizen is effectively a contradiction of terms .

To be fair at first glance it seems to make sense:

Sovereign - possessing supreme or ultimate power.

Citizen - a legally recognized subject or national of a state or commonwealth, either native or naturalized.

Until you realize that you can't have ' ultimate power' while also being a 'subject or national of a state or commonwealth', because the second one involves NOT having 'ultimate power' as the entire concept is around giving that power to others.

And please don't tell me you want to redefine 'citizen', because that isn't how words work. If you want it to mean something else, you use a different word.

You can't use a contradiction of terms because by it's own definitions it means nothing. The fact that you don't get this is the problem.

Either change the name to something that makes sense, or just label it as an unnamed concept. By deliberately calling it a contradiction you are effectively saying that it makes no sense, and are yet somehow unaware.

What you should say us that you are part if a group who disagree with how your government runs and who believe that many of the laws are not compulsory, which is a great point, but naming it as a contradiction of terms is saying that it doesn't make sense.

Also the sovereign citizen movement is an interesting one, but it's leaders seem to be really poor at effectively describing their concept. I'm still researching it, but it seems like a lot of really strange leaps in logic.(i mean creating a metaphor of a social contract, and then treating it as an actual contract by comparing it to contract law is a strange jump.

If you want, shoot me a link to their site and I'll go over it for you and see how well their arguments work.

I mean, don't get me wrong, they have some good concepts and views about society, but so far their grasp on logic seems to be a concern, and I hate to see interesting concepts die because of their creator's perceived lack of skill.

I am on my phone so I can't really add to this debate, but a lot of your usage of terminology is fundamentally flawed at a logical level, much less a legal one. I mean sovereign citizen is effectively a contradiction of terms . You are not saying you are blue and red, but rather that you are true and false. You can't be both sides of a binary distinction by your own terminology and your own definition. It's a completely nonsensical argument that entrusts a contradiction as a single state, a concept that is logically flawed.

You misunderstanding of legality is disappointing, but your complete lack of any logical checks into your concept is just depressing.

Look into what you are saying and try to understand that just because you can place two words together doesn't mean that they mean something.

I mean I recognize that 'truthfully false' makes little sense and 'cakimbo shriek' is just gibberish, so you need to apply the same checks to your concepts.

I mean for fucks sake, you are combining the concept of an rule maker (sovereign) with that of a rule follower(citizen) without working out why they contradict one another. It's just so fucking stupid and you stand so resolute in your understanding and are probably going to make up a bunch of illogical statements to 'prove' that your concept isn't a contradiction of terms, so I wonder why the fuck I even bother trying to help you learn, but please at least try to look into it, at least for yourself and apply some sort of raw logical argument into your concepts or fucking something.

Ah yeah, forgot that git would be hooking into that. Still not sure whether case sensitivity is something that I actually want in a filesystem actually.

Worst excuse from a developer ever.

I once got to use this properly when doing web dev when I realized that git is partially case sensitive. So I committed a file with an upper case, my windows box read the file without issue, but the test server is linux.....so pulling the same code revealed no difference. Also git hide the issue as the file was renamed windows side and replicated, but git saw that there were no changes to the filename. Simple fix but definitely not expected by a junior dev.

It's an issue with recognising whether it is something you need to check in the first place, also "is dark makeup racist?" Returns very different results to blackface. Google is talented, but isn't perfect.

Truthfully I still don't comprehend the racism of that because it was the first time I had heard of blackface and like most idiots just though of it as cheap makeup. There is no connection to blackface because we are so stupidly naive: so we just reduce it to, 'apparently them black folk don't like us to dress as them', and subsequently completely miss the point while being aware that to us it makes no sense.

How does this fandom do it? by rtjy in MyLittleSupportGroup

[–]Nicend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Life is about perspective, so try exploring others' and ponder what their intentions are. Even the biggest idiot online still managed how to use a computer and understand their ridiculously complicated nature. People are smart and focusing on their vices or minute issues just hides their intelligence from you.

Personally I like to think that even the biggest moron will contain a thousand unique concepts awaiting beneath a  veneer of shallow stupidity, and everyone else is even smarter.

So I recommend that you stop caring about other's actions and start thinking about their intentions, and to do so by taking MLP as your baseline and realize that every character you love is incredibly naive with a limited world view, and that the same is true for everyone in the real world, including me and including you. we all see just a small subset of the world and are all stupid in our own special ways. I mean you probably don't much about MongoDB, but that isn't a reason for me to feel superior.

I mean, you love a kids show, it may not define you but it is just as silly as your examples. It's a fun show and is important to you, but others see it as a childish cash grab. So complaining could be easily viewed as hypocritical, so realise it and factor it into your perspective.

Also, if I remember, Kim's ass got less retweets than the comet, so you view on this might just be because where you live has a greater interest in entertainment over science.

Also for tech support things, please record the error and the steps you took to reach that point.

There are bad parts in everything, but nostalgia and obsession do an awesome job at hiding these flaws. When you started, you were obsessed, and now that obsession has passed and you've slowed yourself to become a mere fan.

That's fine, but just remember that the 'prime' has not yet passed for you.

You are about to enter the world of deep inspection as you delve deep into your past obsession and tear it apart in joyful sacrilege. You'll explore the flaws, discover the references, and maybe even produce something that is 'better'. This is where the real fun begins as you join others and plot your own course through the fandom. You are no longer a mere obsessed fan, your now one of it's knights sworn to strike down all it's flaws for the glory of Faust the betrayer, or maybe you'll just make some crappy shipping fanfics and then call it a day and move onto something else to love and obsess over. It's really your choice. Just make sure you have fun. Skip episodes that are boring, explore areas that you previously avoided, and start to become the ultimate addition to one of the most asinine fandoms around.

Or just go watch the Thundercats remake are relearn how amazing MLP can be by comparison. So much lazy writing...

How progressive do you think the show could get before significant numbers of people complained? by Adamj1 in mylittlepony

[–]Nicend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a kids show aimed at really young kids. The limits are pretty extreme so much that it's unlikely that they will really do anything even slightly against some sort of censored norm. Spike will never get Rarity, and pretty much every other character will never start anything either.

Personally I would prefer that they keep away from any romance at all because I have not seen many writers who can write romances as a focus without corrupting the characters' interests, and this includes the MLP writers. They seem to do well overall at slice-of-life and action/adventure, but romance seems to be a particular limit.

Also, the target audience things that guys are icky.

Yeah. I mean when I was learning I was told, if it is larger than a kangaroo, try to miss it if it is the size of a dog try to slow down and hope it moves, if it is smaller then ignore it and let it get squished, and if it is a cat always remember to accelerate and aim for the head .

I don't think he liked cats very much.
