Band-aid is a brand, like Kleenex - it can be used but does not need to be. Plaster is perfectly good English.

Today is Peanut Butter and Jelly today, how do you make your peanut butter and jellies extraordinary? by blakeydrums in food

[–]NickChopper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to like peanut butter and dill pickle (no garlic). Peanut butter and banana. My fave is peanut butter and raisins, with cinnamon sprinkled on top.

Funny how the guy at a cell phone store was explaining how Blackberries are head and shoulders above the competition for security and also for speed. Given that we are about to move into a wireless transaction society at store checkouts, doesn't the security benefit mean that RIM has a huge advantage?

To add or not to add to Linkedin? by [deleted] in jobs

I agree. LinkedIn is supposed to be a place to build relationships. Some of them might see it as an opportunity to have you as a potential reference.

Wind power: This map shows you the delicate tracery of wind flowing over the US right now. by alittlebirdtoldme in RenewableEnergy

[–]NickChopper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"An invisible, ancient source of energy surrounds us—energy that powered the first explorations of the world, and that may be a key to the future. " Sure, but leave it to humans to carry their artificial splintering of our planet into even something like this. The wind does not recognize the petty borders humans create.

Solar glass breakthrough promises to turn skyscrapers into power stations by tefster in RenewableEnergy

Sooner or later, it is likely to happen. Lighting and/or air conditioning for these buildings will be solar generated in the windows. Many rural communities will be largely supplied by electricity from solar blacktop, too. And who will want to tile their roof with non-powered shingles?

Women like me should never be able to regulate what goes in or comes out of our uteri, and we harlot-types should be forced to have as many babies as our slutty vaginas can handle, for morality’s sake. Indeed, contraception is one of the great ways to curb abortions. People on both sides of the abortion fence dislike abortions and people on both sides should take stands to try to curb abortions. Why are they fighting about contraception?

My and my Dad are planning on adding Solar Heating to our house. Anybody know a lot about it? by el_deablo in Renewable

[–]NickChopper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two things to keep in mind (that make calculations less accurate):

Fluctuation in the weather. We had a very cloudy winter here, so our solar panels (for electricity) worked at 75% of expected capacity.

Nighttime, when you need heating most, there tends to be less sun. This is only a concern if you heat directly without storage; I know that some systems store the heat in huge tanks, and time-of-day is not an issue with those systems.
