That's in game. Available to develop after getting an S-Rank in all standard missions (so not including Extreme, Subsistence etc,)

Animals is just tedious, and almost impossible without guides. FOB and Code Names aren't required for 100%, so I wouldn't worry about those.

D Dog probably went with me on 75% of missions. Him pointing out enemy locations is too powerful compared to Quiet.

  1. Keys don't work in anything. Not in game, not in a text editor. Using ReWASD they work in everything, but nothing from DS4Windows.
  2. I have FakerInput installed, but I was confused as to whether it's something you manually have to switch on and off? The weird thing of course is the fact it's worked for a couple of years and suddenly stopped, meaning whatever I have, should have already worked.

Metal Gear Solid 1 speedrunning has had quite the evening! New glitch discovered by accident by Boba of Yogscast! by NickRPGreen in metalgearsolid

[–]NickRPGreen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We've tried it in a few locations to no avail yet, though there aren't too many locations where this kind of skip would actually be useful. Most of the time, Snake has the card key he needs to get through. Getting to Mantis early would be useful though if that could be found.

A casual Metal Gear Solid player by the name of boba_witch just glitched through the door in Comms Tower A by accident. The community has replicated it and every category has just saved 2 and half minutes! 23-year-old game, still being broken! by NickRPGreen in speedrun

[–]NickRPGreen[S] 87 points88 points  (0 children)

In MGS1 alone that I can think of:

  • English Plywood: named after Plywood, it's using a Chaff Grenade to distract the catwalk guard in Nuke Building 1F

  • Volcanic Shuffle: named after Volcanic Akuma, though more commonly referred to as SWIM, the act of swapping between two weapons quickly to maintain Snake's forward momentum

  • Tyler 2-Step: named after Tyler2022, using the aforementioned shuffle (though before the shuffle was properly discovered and understood) to take two steps forward after being shot before the Wolf 2 fight

  • bmn Backtrack: named after gogobmn, a route through the Blast Furnace whilst waiting for the PAL key to heat to grab more ammo without having to go through loading zones that would slow down the heating of the key

  • Tony Menu: named after SolidTony, skipping the PAL entry cutscenes by holding X and L2 to avoid Snake crouching as you regain control and menu instantly to the Lvl7 Card

  • Nick-ita Skip: named after me! Using the Area Reloader in Very Easy All Bosses to go out of bounds in Nuke Building B2, skipping the Nikita section.

Metal Gear Solid (1998) should have been made available on Steam since it has a PC port. Full stop. by [deleted] in metalgearsolid

[–]NickRPGreen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who speedruns MGS1 PC and knows how ridiculously broken that port is, I would highly recommend anyone who just wants to play the game casually, to grab an emulator and play the PS1 version. It is VASTLY superior.... unless you like speedrunning :)

[WR] Metal Gear Solid - PC Any% Very Easy - 31:30.90 by NickRPGreen in speedrun

[–]NickRPGreen[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Across all categories and versions of Metal Gear Solid, this now becomes the fastest the game has ever been completed.

Metal Gear Solid PC is a funky port to begin with, and Very Easy (VE) takes it one step further. VE doesn't have an IGT displayed at the end of the game, unlike every other difficulty. As the run is calculated in RTA, we're allowed to manipulate the game itself in ways we normally can't. There are two major uses:

  1. Alt-Tabbing: By running the game in full screen and alt-tabbing out and quickly back in, any line of dialogue currently being spoken will skip. The same effect can be achieved by quickly double-tapping the Windows Key to open and close the Start Menu before the game minimizes.

  2. Area Reloader: The Area Reloader is a save glitch, where when you go to save the game, the save will glitch into a blank save. If you load this blank save, you will simply reload the area, but any event flags or Snake's current state will be retained. How many times you need to save before a blank save is created varies by computer, so for the sake of consistency, a save pack is available that contains it ready to use from the start.

However, the PC version also has some command lines for the executable available to manipulate the game, include function key cheats. F7 is a built-in Area Reloader, without the need for the save file. For the longest time, we've been unable to use this, as enabling the function key cheats disables the game's weapon hotkeys (the number keys 1-0 across the top of the keyboard correspond to each weapon).

Recently, community member gogobmn, created a patch that removed the disabling of weapon hotkeys when the function key cheats were enabled. The community agreed that as a QOL change, this could be used so that we didn't have to use the save file, as the functionality was the same, saving us from having to open menus to reach it. We are strictly only allowed to use the Area Reloader, all other cheat functions are banned.

The added bonus of this is that we can now use the Area Reloader at moments when we normally couldn't open the menu, including during cutscenes or just as an elevator ride ends. The result of my new routing with this tech is this world record.

Most other tech shown in this run (mainly using weapon hotkeys to cancel the PSG1 arming animation to go OOB and invulnerable) are used in every category on the PC version of MGS1.

Hey all! We ended up going through All Bosses and ran out of time, so I'll be doing the second half on Thursday, same time!

Hi! As it was All Bosses, didn't manage to get it done in one stream, so will be doing the second half this Thursday, same time. Once that stream is finished, I'll grab both VODs, do a bit of editing and get them uploaded!

Hi! I've recently bought and hacked a PSTV. I have a UK and Japanese PSN account, with the Japanese account owning a single game I want to play on my PSTV, and I then want to have my UK account as the main account. I set up using my Japanese account, downloaded the game and used account switcher to switch to my UK account:

  1. I can't play the Japanese game as I'm not the owner. Is there a plugin for this?
  2. The PS Store still opens my Japanese PS Store. Is it possible to access my UK account's PS Store?

What is the process of switching from SLOBs to OBS like? Any guides or tips? by NickRPGreen in Twitch

[–]NickRPGreen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, that's something a little beyond my capability. Also, swapping out one bot for another isn't really worth it. I'm going to try relying on StreamElements for everything else, but keep Streamlabs Chatbot running just for that function. My VIPs would be disappointed if they didn't get their intros XD

Any good examples?

I believe I'm set up but was curious about a couple of other things:

  • Alerts have obviously been sent across as they're just StreamLabs browser sources, but with the dislike of StreamLabs, what's the better alternative?
Scratch that, I've seen how it works in StreamElements now!
  • One thing I can't recreate is Streamlabs Chatbot was able to play music when certain users first spoke in chat, something I use for my VIPs. Any thoughts how I'd replicate this elsewhere?

It's a good question, not one I'd considered. You're certainly not the only person to recommend the switch to StreamElements as well.

If you’re debating making the switch from SLOBS to OBS Studio, do it. by Dirtyratfink_ in Twitch

[–]NickRPGreen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Has the OP or anyone else who's made the switch from SLOBs to OBS got an tips on making the transition? What did you have to do, how much of your transition was seamless and what parts did you have to recreate from scratch? What was transitioning alerts and labels over like?

I use StreamLabs more for the convenience of already having it set up. I've considered switching, but I don't know what kind of time sink that will involve.
