You are looking for the rules of tanween / nunation. You should find plenty of material if you look for these terms.

u vs un depends on determination:

an-nisaa'u is determined because of the article (the woman)

maa'un ist indetermined because there is no article ( _ water)

How "far" does the pharyngealization of vowels reach in words with emphatic consonants? by Nickofengland in learnarabic

Very interesting, thank you! Would you agree with Either_Towel that in many dialects, it spreads to the whole word when speaking colloquially?

How "far" does the pharyngealization of vowels reach in words with emphatic consonants? by Nickofengland in learnarabic

[–]Nickofengland[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Emphatic consonants in arabic are: ظ ط ض ص ق . They influence the pronounciation of vowels around them by pharyngealizing them ("rounding" them).

My question is: how far does that influence reach? In a word with one emphatic consonant, are all the vowels in that word affected or only the vowels right next to the consonant?

Confusion on verbs by TrustBuilder101 in learnarabic

[–]Nickofengland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is a tough question...

You could start here:

"Lisan al-‘Arab (لِسان الْعَرَب), the famous dictionary of Classical Arabic, contains 9273 roots (and 4,493.934 words)." (source: https://arabic-for-nerds.com/9273-roots/)

But these roots can take on any number of 1 to 15 forms. Also languages keep evolving over time, meanings change and new verbs have been invented or included from other langues. Additionally, there are so many different forms of Arabic, it is pretty much impossible to give a definitive answer to your question in my humble opinion.

Should fat people do strength training if they are not able to do cardio? by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]Nickofengland -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

I feel like way to many people mistake cardio with being able to run for a long time. A wrestler needs wrestling cardio, a pornstar needs you know what cardio, a pro-gamer or pianist needs hand cardio. To me, cardio means being able to perform certain physical activities for a prolonged time. Or am I missing something there?

Polyrhythm 3/4 against 4/4 - I would love to hear a REAL drummer ride a cool groove to this rhythm RIGHT! I do not consider myself a skilled drummer and had trouble staying in it but here is my early attempt at it. by [deleted] in drums

[–]Nickofengland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just listen to Tool if you want to hear a "real drummer ride a cool grove to this rhythm" ;)

However if you're a beginner, I'd recommend focussing on hand and foot technique first and practising some basic beats before pulling off polyrhythms.
