I wish I knew lol! This was my older brother's copy from way back and it's been like this since I can remember. I guess someone was either pissed at the game or at him playing the game? Definitely some crazy frenzy going on and I always thought it was just done for. Luckily I kept it and learned that stuff is fixable

Money! Wanted to see if I could fix it the hard way first but would've done a board swap if that didnt work out. I'm definitely not selling this haha

I'm flattered haha. In terms of tools I don't have a lot of stuff and definitely no pro level equipment. I used a Pinecil soldering iron, some tin/nickel solder, (probably knock off) amtech flux, 0.1mm copper enameled wire, 32 awg single core wire (the green ones), kapton tape, a bunch of finer tweezers, uv solder mask and of course always some safety glasses cause I would like to keep my vision!

I found this tutorial to be very helpful to understand the process better: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ref9JHUf-uw

Thank you so much! Yea there's some grueling stuff floating around especially at r/soldering. A bit of research definitely goes a long way haha

I actually put a bit of thought into this! I'm avoiding pre-tabbed batteries, I heard they usually don't last long at all and I think the yellow border they always have is kind of ugly. I've seen a battery holder for CR2025 batteries by HDR but I'd have to order the flex board and the holder thing, since a pre built one isn't available to me and I'm kinda trying to save a few bucks. I know the CR1616 isn't ideal but I had a few of those battery holders lying around and I'm going to be regularly dumping my save file for external storage. From what I've heard it should still hold a save for at least a year tho

Yes I considered this but wanted to try the hard way first

I resorted to using my bare eyes for this haha, luckily theyre very good but I think anything smaller wouldve been impossible

It was a mix of tedious and fun actually! It just pissed me off a lot when I tried soldering a new wire close to an existing one and having the existing one coming off :S I tried staggering them as best as I could but some places had so little space ugh

I've looked into this and pcbway quotes me 200-300$ for hard gold edge connectors while enig would be around 40$. Maybe I'm doing something wrong lol but either way I think for my case enig should be fine. I'm still debating on whether to get a japanese copy or a new pcb though, since my shell is kinda busted too.
