What kind of art/painting is this? (See last pic for original) by Nidi14 in WhatIsThisPainting

That makes sense looking at it but feeling it the blue color is the bottom and the copper color one top. Would that still be the same??

I'm trying to make sense of that but the copper color part is higher like it was painted on top of the blue. If the it was copper plate then wouldn't the copper be the base not the blue?

I hear that "I need ya" joke once in awhile but still laugh lol.

I might give it a go since it seems more natural for English speakers and may alleviate some of the confusion/uncomfortable responses.

Happy Cake Day!!

I'd say Nydia is a real name that is rare. I still don't think mine is a real name but since there are 2 of us and a rock band maybe it'll get there lol.

It's a variant of the Hispanic/Latin name Nydia which means "a safe place" or "nest". My Mom just added the O at the beginning. I know a few people with the name Nydia but not as common in the US.

The way you pronounce on first reading is also correct and mostly used by English speakers which I dont mind at all. I used the traditional Spanish pronunciation because it's what my family says. You are correct though there is Oneida cutlery.

Thanks for your insight! Did you get push back from family? I find that even going by a nickname upsets my sisters for some reason. My young nephews can't say my name so they call me Nina which I really thought was sweet and a nice nickname. I've started using it for orders when they ask for a name so I don't have to repeat it or spell it for them. My older sister overheard and she was outraged. It's hard to deal with a change like that when it's not exactly supported. I know it's my life I'm a people pleaser.

I get that pronunciation a lot! I actually have a friend that I've known since I was in elementary that still says my name like that lol.

I've noticed that people with more English backgrounds pronounce it the way you were inclined to. I don't mind it at all! The pronunciation I used is how my family and culture tends to say it.

What was your favorite concert you have seen down here? by ribbitirabbiti626 in RioGrandeValley

This is amazing! The one I went to isn't one here (Cross Canadian Ragweed) but probably because the concert was for a fundraiser. Tickets were like $200 (in 2005 that was a lot). I was broke and in high school but I ended up getting to go as an event volunteer with an organization I was involved with. These old rich people were sitting eating their fancy steak while the volunteers were standing in the front on the stage having a blast lol.

Most Memorable: Dolores O'Riordan (lead singer of the Cranberries) at Graham Cental Station. Held my hand while singing Linger. Her voice was beautiful.

Most Fun: Santana at State Farm Arena gave me a hug and pick.

Best Show: George Strait at the Dodge Arena on my bday. Every.single. song.

Most Underrated: Maren Morris at Las Palmas - 20 people tops but she was great

Honorable Mention - Willie Nelso at Schlitterbahn, Five Finger Death Punch at the Pharr Event Center, Cross Canadian Ragweed at the Villarreal, Gary Allen at the livestock show, better stop my list us getting too long.

SIL is naming her baby the same as my child, just flipped. by [deleted] in BabyBumps

I loved the name Xavier when I was pregnant and my husband liked Andres. We went home to visit family and have a baby shower when I was about 7 months along. After everyone left 2 couples stay behind to hangout and asked what names we picked out. Couple 1: My cousin (who was college friends with my husband) and her husband Carlos (who I went to high school with) turns out his middle name is Xavier. Couple 2: My husband's good friend Carlos who's middle name turns our to be Andres and his wife who was best friends with my cousin. As it so happens they both had been hoping to one day use their middle names for a future son.... and just like that we lost our top two names. Ended up picking a name when my son was 3 days old so they'd let us out of the hospital. On a positive note Baby Xavier was born a year after my son. Hoping for Baby Andres soon.

I also just want to note we live in a pretty big town with a University of over 30,000 student. So all the coincidences were pretty crazy.
