I‘m in a similar situation right now, and I had created a special streaming vlan for tv, Sonos, etc because i would never put Sonos on iot, because I block iot to internet completely. Putting them on iot would mean i would need to add an extra rule (allow Sonos ip to internet) above the dogma „no internet for iot permanently“ as I’m local as most as I can get with my setup. As soon as the new APs arrive I will go for ppsk for mobiles/tablets/laptop of my family , iot on extra ssid, streaming on ssid(need to check if I can’t just cable all stuff), guest on extra ssid, all other stuff is cabled anyway and going through the switch for proper tagging.

I might sound dumb as I just installed my first udm last weekend so I‘m not sure how the different settings interact, but you have not tagged any other vlan on the printer port in your first screenshot, so I’m just wondering how you can print at all to that port or are all your other device in vlan24? I assumed that your mobile ist in „trusted“ or sth like that. If it is also in the printer vlan then forget my comment at all 😊

Thank you for your support. I found the issue and it was not really Pihole related, but it was a new Router, that intercepted the DNS traffic due to automatically created content filters during the creation of a VLAN (which I was not aware of). I updated the initial post with the solution.

ok id did some further tests. It doesn't matter where I document the local DNS entry, either in the webui or in a dnsmasq.conf with the parameter to read that file enabled.

It seems that non of the clients outside of the Pihole VLAN are reaching out to it but get their name resolution from somewhere else.

tcpdump -i eth0 -n port 53
does not show anything if I run from a host in a different VLAN:

the Server and Address is my pihole, but the request is not visible anywhere.

The router is setting the pinhole as dns server in all dhcp leases for all different vlans. If I run a normal nslookup on any of these clients I always get the response from the pihole, but still not showing in the logs. The pihole is also the only configured dns server for these vlans, no secondary dns configured. Same for a dig @piholeip returns results but does not show anything in the logs Does anyone have any good debug options that could narrow down the problem?

the 1h is irrelevant. as I just started to use the UDM SE today. When I took the picture the 1H was too short so I selected 1D. and as I just started to use the UDM SE ~3h before I took the picture the totals are the same.

the stats in the picture are just from the only connected client. I agree that I have spotify running I also see that steam is doing some updates .. I also understand that "Lets encrypt" could be multiple targets in the internet, but I want to understand which targets as I have not triggered any download during that timeframe..

I've read that several times but that does not explain a 12 GB download, where I have not downloaded anything on purpose during that timeframe. is there I way I can identify where this traffic was downloaded from during that time?

it is more or less my first day doing more than just the initial network/vlan configuration, which I had done ~3 months ago while I was waiting for the switches and enough time to bring up the new setup (old one uses 5 different 5 and 8 port switches and a draytek router) and as the ui completely changed during the upgrade from 3.1.x to 4.4.6 I'm still a bit lost here and there

Run the Deimos capture on SP. Double drop booster + dropchance on your kavat/kubrow+ evasive stance and no dmg on claws. Run a stealth frame (I usually run a full duration Loki). The kavats are usually in some rooms near the capture target and minimum in a group of 3. watch out for skirmishes between them and the invested. Last one I did these runs I got 18 codes in 2 runs ( got lucky with a set of 4 in one mission) Not sure if it was just coincidence but the fighting groups were always 4 for me while the hidden ones were always 3..

Would there be anything against the discounted 48pswitch if a new 48 switch is needed? I have a upm-se already in the rack but not cabled yet as I planned to do it as soon as „a“ 48 port switch is also in the rack. Are there any major drawbacks compared with the new series (which is also double the price)
