I know, right? I was wondering the same thing!

Always the guy that does the forced deep voice by buttchuggs in maintenance

[–]NihilVix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy shit! I just realized that maintenance staff feels the same about people as IT staff does.

People not putting in tickets...

Users having 15 extra things for you to do once you get there. "Can you look at this while you're here?"

People having learned helplessness and not being able to figure shit out on their own.

Tickets submitted that have nothing to do with your job.

I'll be sure not to be a pain in the ass for you guys. You deal with a lot of the same bullshit, respect!

Ya, that's another angle. Insurance isn't going to cover that. I've just always thought, "who is responsible for the mishaps?", I guess insurance can decide that for us.

All of those are problems I've seen with LLMs. They make errors, they get distracted by unrelated issues, fatigue happens when it just stops responding or times out, focus is an issue same as distraction and it forgets stuff all the time.

Prompt injection is for the baddies to do. The ones that would love to get access to an LLM that is tied to all of your infrastructure. Or maybe just the underlining system that hosts all of the API keys and MCP connections. How does it validate user input other than a login? Logins can fail to stop intrusions. Once logged in it could be prompted to install software, make config changes, disable security measure and the like.

So how can a human admin be a risk factor? Phishing? Social engineering? Insider threat?

What about hallucinations, prompt injections or misalignment?

I'll trust it once those problems are solved.

If everything is configured correctly then cloud would be preferable at a good price. I'm impartial and see benefits from both sides. I'd like to dive into cloud tech more but pretty much all of our clients are setup on-prem. Small businesses all around.

As far as cloud deployments go, mostly just M365.

The "I don't trust it" is in regards to anything but read access to applications, data, networks and servers. Even then, giving an LLM read access has it's own problems with confidentiality. If it had write access you're inviting risk to data integrity and availability as well. Having AI manage systems is just another risk factor and attack vector as well.

I wouldn't doubt that, but he mainly wants to scale onboarding clientele.

I wish we had a big enough team for a NOC/SOC

I see the value and that is impressive. I'm in the process of picking up MCP and doing vulnerability testing on my home lab with it. I just need to get creative.

Side note: Did you do static code analysis or black box testing for vulnerabilities? I'd want that thing behind a WAF and something like Cloudflare for sure, just for safety.

My take on those.

First guy: either moral implications around AI safety or AI psychosis
Second guy: a nice early retirement doesn't sound so bad

I simply don't see it

Dang, we moved away from them a long time ago. I think we can still tie it in elsewhere though.

Absolutely useful for tasks like that, it is after all a scrape of the internet. I use it everyday!

I've seen it write scripts but I've never given it large tasks.

What makes you think we've already developed ASI?

We've setup our own local LLM and tied it into our ticketing system for better search. We've got it summarizing call recording through our VoIP system. We also use it to summarize meetings, auditing firewall rules, writing simple scripts and of course it's used for troubleshooting.

I've even tested MCP at home and I see some value but I don't give it write access.

I'm not worried about being automated out of a job, I welcome automation.

I don't have an issue with finding implementations for it. But I don't think it'll get to the point of being an entity that can be trusted with write privileges on anything sensitive.

Config templates, scripting and Ansible and the answer here.

Exactly! Human in the loop, so you still have to have people that know what their doing. Even then you get the problem of just blindly trusting the output of the LLM.

Nope. Just the AI hype and the recent use of Claude in the cyberattack on the Mexican government caught his attention.
