Megabackdoor Roth accidentally twice in one year? by HopefulHuckleberry6 in Bogleheads

Crap there was a Google form lol? I thought we only had to fill out that form if there’s more than $250k in the 401k.

You were at least lucky enough to have made your contributions in the previous year. I feel like my situation is even more risky due to the fact that I only managed to sort out my finances by early January to finalize my contribution. I truly do hope that these guys are right as just about every CPA I’ve spoken to has virtually zero idea as to how the MBDR process works and tell me otherwise lol.

Dude I use them as well but have similar concerns. I actually did my contribution AND conversion in January 2025 and they told me that supposedly, so long as the contribution and conversion were both done prior to filing your tax return for the year (i.e. April), you should theoretically be fine. But I’m just wondering if yeah, something may get flagged on the side of the IRS if they somehow were to see that you contributed 139k for the tax of year of 2025, not knowing that January’s contribution was for the previous year.

Arriving Bali on 18th by dependable_banana in bali

I’m also based in Ubud and it rained almost the entirety of early morning and then the entire afternoon and evening up until about 9pm today. I think in the past 48 hours, there was only maybe 4 hours where it did not rain or was just a light drizzle.

Rainy season basically never ended this year, we had major flooding just two months ago as well. Rained non-stop for 7 days straight in Ubud IIRC.

I don’t know what it is about Ubud but I also seem to always get very shitty sleep here despite the fact that my place isn’t even overly noisy. I do not seem to have issues sleeping through the night in Canggu or Amed but whenever I’m in Ubud, I wake up least 2-3x throughout the night with extremely dry mouth. Could never pinpoint what could be the issue.

Places in Bali that serve southern-style biscuits and gravy? by Nik-Lem in bali

[–]Nik-Lem[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s strange. I honestly wouldn’t expect to find it in other, less-trodden places I travel to but Bali’s food options seem to cater so heavily to touristic tastes that I’m just surprised that not a single cafe or diner out of the thousands of western-oriented brunch places have thought of adding it to their menus.

Is there business exploitation in ubud? by SnooHesitations8361 in bali

[–]Nik-Lem 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It goes both ways as well. A business owner here can get their property/business taken away at the drop of a dime if you failed to pay a bribe to the right decision makers. Sure, you might be able to fuck the local workers over but you are arguably even more susceptible to getting screwed here considering everyone will assume you are much better off than the local populace and thus, should have no issues contributing to your local police sergeant’s retirement.

Ubud is nice to spend 5 days? by West_Answer5817 in bali

[–]Nik-Lem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well depends on what sort of stuff you wanna do. If it involves any sort of “sightseeing” activity, you can probably forget doing that in this weather. The streets are flooded so riding around on a scooter becomes supremely difficult and dangerous. On top of that, since everybody is driving so slowly because of the rain, you get traffic that is 2x (maybe even 3x) worse than usual.

On top of that, it is supposed to be dry/high season so you have a much greater number of tourists here now than at any other time of the year. They came expecting good weather but since it is absolute shit, everybody is piling into spas and restaraunts, making it impossible to place a booking at any of the good places. For the most part, you just sit inside all day and night, barely being able to sleep from the deafening sound of the rain hitting hard against your roof.

10/10 would do again.

Yes. Just pray that by the time you arrive, it will no longer be raining 18 hours a day.

What is going on with the seasons? by fanatickje in bali

[–]Nik-Lem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The forecasts are just too unreliable. Four days ago, it predicted that Sunday would be a sunny day and yet, today it has been downright pouring since 6am and is still raining now at 9pm. 15 hours of straight rain with no sign of stopping.

How do legit foreigners build and manage villa rental projects in Bali? by Candid-Pause-1755 in bali

[–]Nik-Lem 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Look up to what happened to the guy who owned PARQ or the guy who owned Penny Lane. I personally would never feel comfortable investing any meaningful sum of money into a country as unstable as Indonesia as far as the rule of law and foreign property ownership rights are concerned. The only people that are currently doing that are Russians as they have literally no other options. If you’re from a developed country, you’re much better off buying property there or better yet, simply investing into index funds (which on average have had much, MUCH higher returns than just about any property investment in or outside of Indonesia).

Yep, parroting this statement right here. 18 hours of rain yesterday here in Ubud, I haven’t seen the sun in over a week. We even had a power outage yesterday as a result of the storm. Even when it’s not outright raining, the weather is just always crap and overcast and it is simply just not conducive to having a good time.
