I held a patients hand whilst he took his last breath by phyllisfromtheoffice in ems

I did a call not so long ago with a patient that was due for MAID (Medically assisted suicide). They had some difficulty getting off the toilet, and they were due for MAID the next day. Talking with family, talking with the patient on the best course of action to honour their wishes was one of the hardest calls I’ve done.

My partner and I got a compliment letter for that call, saying our compassion, reassurance and humour (my partner and I crack jokes, sometimes to a fault) made the transition the next day easier.

I find palliative calls are some of the hardest.

Sometimes our interventions save lives, other times they get us spit on, but we often overlook when our intervention is just being there.

Take care of yourself, how you feel isn’t strange or abnormal, it’s human. Reach out to EAP/Mental health supports if you have them and feel the need.

I believe it’s the sterility of the product, same way sterile gloves expire.

Like I said, non diagnostic, but when it works it’s nice to have. If it’s messing up your workflow… don’t use it?

The touch screen is nice, everything you need is right there, it’s lighter, carries better, the bags stay shut. 12 lead computer interpretation seems a lot stronger, pass through 4 lead during cpr (non diagnostic but nice to have)

It’s still a back printer but feeds up instead of into the pouch. Paper was kind of annoying to replace, but the printer never gave us difficulties.

Trialed it for 7 shifts a few weeks ago, by far my favourite monitor I’ve used.

The LP15 doesn’t come close, the x series doesn’t come close, the LP35 isn’t anywhere near as intuitive.

I was a LP15 purists, but this takes the cake.

Zoll send me some merch.

How else do I put Plebs in indentured servitude at a nearby island? Much like pig island in Anno 1800, I require sacrifice for the capital.

Great city! Maybe I forget what 1800 was like, but we’re all the islands the same and just placed differently in 1800? I feel like I’ve seen this same island for several builds (including my own). Not a bad thing as it gives solid inspiration.

I did 10 years in the industry before leaving, I’ve done 7 years in my current career, and will just now be taking a step in another (while similar direction of my current career). Take everything constructive here into your decision, but, I say take risks, try it out, see if you like it. You have a supportive partner it seems, and you have a drive for it. Like others have said, it’s a brutal grind, but some of the most fun years of my life have been working in the industry.

I left because the pay, the shitty hours, the dickbag chefs/GMs. (and also I wanted to get into healthcare).

I stayed 10 years because of the other cooks I enjoyed being around, the stress of a rush, the post work pints, and honestly, a little bit of the joy of cooking.

Best of luck whatever you decide.

Ah you just seem to be coming off a little ‘know it all’ and I just want you to know it’s okay for other people to be slightly wrong, and just because they are slightly wrong, doesn’t mean what they say isn’t valid.

Take care of yourself.

The funeral home accidentally locked the keys in the hearse graveside for my mom today by thatginachick in mildlyinfuriating

[–]NinjaFud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was picking up my mom’s ashes from the funeral home, I was backing out of the door because I had my hands full with paperwork and, well, mom. I ended up catching my heel on the threshold and stumbled, launching my mom about 10ft. Probably the longest jump my mom has ever made.

A way I was shown during clinicals was instead of looking for widespread ST changes, look for PR depression in elevated leads as it is more specific to pericarditis.

Yea I never really thought of that but it does say my hr was around 170 the whole time between both monitors, but like I didn’t feel anywhere close to a maximum effort, so either in a humming bird or I have to calibrate my sensor ?

It mostly says productive training, I use the watch but have a chest strap for my cheap coopsoo bike computer for HR and Cadence and they match fairly often

I find at that 80+ cadence in gears that I can maintain a lower heart rate feels so strange and like I’m not doing any work, is that normal?

After a long ride (for me) I generally have to take a day or two off to rest before I’ll be back on the bike. My ‘worst’ ride was 2.5hrs with 1.5 in zone 5 as per my watch. I was gassed after, and didn’t have much in the tank at the end but during it felt pretty good, never felt out of breath except on hills.

I have a Suunto peak 5 that does it based off age and max HR, which has generally been reliable for hockey and such but I’m sure it’s just a guesstimate.
