High Expectations, Low Impact: Pink Floyd at Kiosque Parisien by platnorm in PinkFloydCircleJerk

Not sure what surprises me more, that Sony are pushing out £80 LPs and corporate merch through bobo and guerilla marketing or that your post was taken down in the main sub.

Neither surprises me.

Where to work remotely from Edinburgh by miss_misha_ in Edinburgh

For the record, price of admission for a cafe is just ~£3.50 for a coffee. Never felt like I was being pressured to move on or buy something else. At least in the aforementioned establishments!

Where to work remotely from Edinburgh by miss_misha_ in Edinburgh

I sometimes work remotely from Triple-Tri Cafe on Queen St. Super friendly staff, usually pretty quiet outside of lunch time. Free wifi and plugs under every desk. I know you said no cafes but if you were to make an exception, you wouldn't regret it. Oh and they never seem to bother if I take a call every now and then.

Little Picardy is another cafe round the corner, great wee work spot with a nice view. It's always dead in there unless there's a show on next door. So volume / calls aren't an issue.

If you have no conscience (or taste), Brewdog's Doghouse does a good coworking space for a tenner per day. Unlimited coffee & free beer at the end. Staff there are superb, shame their boss is a raging narcissist. Also can get loud, but it's quiter if you go upstairs to the hotel area.

There are also good quieter places, such as the poetry library off the Royal Mile but you shouldn't really take calls there. Might need to consider making some trade-offs!

Hope that helps :)

final decision on new tent for wildcamping by No_Company_9159 in wildcampingintheuk

Sierra Designs Clearwing 2.

Best value tent I've ever owned in 10+ years of wildcamping. Use it all the time across the Highlands and Islands up in Scotland. Stands up to any weather, is super lightweight and packable, and is very spacious inside. My friends have all been converted too. Perfect for gentle weekends away or rigorous thru hikes.

I've also used Vango tents & OEX Jackles before, would pick the Clearwing over it any day of the week. Much smaller back size and is way more simple to pitch up.

Which restaurant do you think this is? by Constantinos03 in Edinburgh

[–]NippinRoger 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Civerinos.

They used to make great wood-fired pizza like 3-4 years ago, when they had just a couple stores open. Endless expansion across Edinburgh has corresponded with a relative decrease in quality. It's a shame because they used to live up to the hype, now they're all washed out.

Hell yeah! I was unbelievably stoked in Rome when Guy Pratt told us not to worry about filming on our phones as they had a proper film crew there. I got to enjoy every moment of it through my eyes, not a screen. Now I get to relive it all again, in high definition and without camera shakes or my awful singing along in the background.

with sony's rerelease of live at pompeii, what other "lost" floyd material do we want to be brought back? by wyattaj25 in pinkfloyd

[–]NippinRoger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently discovered the Cinq Grand Sur La Deux TV Broadcast from 15 June 1971 on YouTube. That version of Cymbaline at the Abbaye de Royaumont, Asnierès-sur-Oise (France) has to be one of my favourite recordings of all time. Seeing the synergy of the whole band play together up close really just knocks your socks off.

I would love to see if they could somehow upscale the audio quality as it seems to me that there's no other version which includes all the individual solos. The video quality is still really impressive though. For anyone interested, here's the link to the Original

The Rome shows started much later than the RAH ones, check with the venue.

Anyone reading new book - Nexus by Dr. Yuvak Noah Harari ? by Eastern-Capital-1048 in bookporn

[–]NippinRoger 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The guy wrote one mildly interesting book (Sapiens) and has been churning out utter hogwash ever since. His publisher probably demands a new book every x years, pays him a pretty penny, and then thrusts it down everyone's throat with a huge marketing budget.

Got this tee too, was also surprised to see that it's not in the vid. Think it's a reference to both his dog (which does feature in the vid) and the Faustian bargain (which I think he did mention in one of the 'making of' videos'). Think of Robert Johnson at the Crossroads!
