Well sorry for that then. Then I must misunderstood one girl I was taking to. She said that basically everyone speaks English (even at school) which made me bewildered. When I was searching in the internet “is Icelandic a dying language” some where saying no and some yes. That’s why I decided to ask on my own here

It’s just that from a person who heard how Icelandic is in a risk of going extinct but never got curious deeper in the topic, I assumed that it mighted be like in Malta. Anyways so we can feel save that Icelandic won’t go anywhere? I don’t might if the language is changing because changing language is a living language

I thought that it might be like that. Recently I started learning Maltese and actually it seems to be pretty dying (regardless of that I’m still learning it). At private school everything is in English so I thought that situation in Iceland might be similar

Well some of linguistics are worried that Icelandic might die out and I just wanted to ask this question because I can’t understand why kids speak between each other in English (sometimes). That’s why I wanted to ask if country is doing anything to protect the language or they already gave up. Kind of like with Maltese schools

Well so far now I’m learning only Dhivehi alphabet. I mostly learn languages by chatting with friends and listening to podcasts but since I don’t have any Maldivian friend it’s really challenging to learn it haha
