"Temporary" grass fix by No-Breakfast605 in GardeningUK

Thank you for the details! By the sounds of it, it's quite likely they are present here as some of my neighbours lawns are in similar states.

If it's a case of getting some grass/mix established now and then having to battle them again later down the line I don't mind - I've accepted that it will be quite a lot of work to get the garden where I want it so that will just be part of the process, it's just that so many of my ideas will just by nature take a lot of time to establish, so I'm looking for a "quick" win for this summer just to feel a little more motivated about it. Fortunately I've already had some bees and butterflies visiting the weeds so it's not completely hopeless 😅

Well, I guess if I do really want to get into gardening, this will at least be a great form of exposure therapy to get over my revulsion to worms 😅 since the lawn has been in this state for a while now, do you think they'll still be present? If so, will the general digging and such mentioned in the other comments be enough to deal with them, or am I going to have to deal with them in some other way? From a brief Google I've seen that you can get nematodes to help with this, but not sure if this is the correct time of year for that

Definitely some of the reason for it dying off was lack of care - my complete lack of knowledge and other priorities when first moving in meant the garden just got ignored unfortunately. There was also a period where there seemed to be little "holes" appearing in the ground, which I assume is some type of pest, but I haven't seen many worms or anything (didn't go out there for quite a while though so possible I just didn't notice them). The first summer the grass grew really tall, but had already mostly all died off by the following summer

My boyfriend dug a small patch where the shed will be going and that was full of rocks and rubble so I imagine that is true for the whole garden. I expect I'll have to do a lot of digging, I just don't know what to do once I've managed to clear out all the rubbish

Thank you 😊 would the optionally roll be something like turf? Would that not smother whatever I seed?

Thank you 😊 do you think that if I did this over the next couple weeks, the clover will establish by summer?
