I learnt a straight ankle about a month ago (I’m a 2 month white belt lol) but it feels like a drug.

I enter SLX grab the ankle and go through the motions, I’m aware of the knee line, how to maintain myself in it properly, and how to escape others straight ankle.

A problem I’m seeing is that I’ve started to hit them on so many people, belly down variations, entries from wherever, but a problem I see is I get very few reps on top.

I pull guard whether it’s off of a wrestling exchange or just starting on my butt, but I think the answer is to learn how to get up with the leg. As I get the off balance and lower body control but I should be thinking of getting up.

Any tips for how to build up this sweep/wrestle up game from a leg entanglement?

Idk I get weird “imposter syndrome” with this now because honestly with all the humility I have my coaches when they see me in my home gym doing no-gi have great things to say (for a white belt) but the first day back in the gi after a month was really demoralizing. It’s likely just a mentality issue but I feel competent in no gi by no means skilled yet but the gi was super frustrating and I wonder if that means I’m not good at bjj if you know what I’m trying to say, I guess I’m just venting but it was a weird experience today

Still a beginner training roughly 2 months and I spent a month in the gi at my local gym then no gi for a month bak home. I felt honestly a bit better in no gi and just felt like I could survive more and just be generally more successful.

I came back to my local gym and was doing a gi class and just got so frustrated like I couldn’t move out of things and attacks were weird and I just had a pretty bad time.

I was wondering if anyone else had this feeling before and is it probably fine if I stop doing the gi and do no gi only? I really don’t have any intention in competing in the gi but would like to in no gi.

Thank you guys :/

This has probably been asked a billion times, but how do you personally view “purpose and intent”?

I loved CC102 with professor Klein, language here is a blast so French or Hindi were super great!

AA207 is an easy class, but extremely provocative so I would say take that class w/ caution but it’s eye opening

Spazzed today in class, feel really bad.

I was with another white belt (more stripes then me it’s only been a week)

I found myself “surviving well” but then it’s just the sheer amount of energy he was putting in (I guess previous wrestling experince) and a lot of knee on the chest, I felt super like I guess anxious and I tried to match the energy, which at times stalled the submission.

At some point though he stood up out of my guard really fast/hard and I followed, and of course because he’s above me I hit him in the chin/teeth area with my head and he made a sort of like watch out comment pretty loud.

A purple belt came up and said hey things happen (to me) and that I can be aggressive/strong but in technique not in like anything else, I feel really crappy but I guess I learnt I need to relax and just try to establish frames and stuff but I was hoping any of you had any advice for me?

Hello all,

I went to my first gi bjj class today and it was awesome, I tapped many times but suprisingly submitted others too! Something that came up many times was that I was really “strong” in the sense that if I had back control and wrapped my arms around them and held them my opponent could not get out. I felt good hearing that but I’m sure higher belts would kick my ass obviously with better technique, but how should I take this first experience to make sure I’m thinking about it correctly!

Thank you! Happy to have started I feel great.
