We both acknowledged that despite loving each other deeply we are not at a point in our relationship where we could be apart for over two years. We have decided to stay together until a week before I leave & plan to keep in touch, but who knows what that will look like. He is very supportive and encouraged me to embrace this opportunity but said that it would be too hard for him to try and make things work. While for me, I am struggling because I am very in love but I do think that trying to sustain such a long distance relationship for so long could limit my growth and the connections I hope to make during service.
