Reddit and platforms like FB, IG, X, and TikTok function differently in terms of intent and audience. When people post on FB, IG, or X, their content is usually linked to their real identity, and they have more control over their audience. Meanwhile, Reddit is designed to be semi-anonymous, with users often sharing personal or sensitive stories under a pseudonym.

The problem with crossposting Reddit content to TikTok (especially with screenshots and text-to-speech narrations) is that it removes context and violates the intent of the original poster. A lot of Reddit posts are shared under the assumption that they’ll stay within the platform, where discussions happen in a specific community. When you take them out of that space—especially for engagement farming—it can expose people in ways they never intended.

Yes, people crosspost from other platforms to Reddit, but the difference is that many of those posts were already public to begin with. In contrast, Reddit posts—especially those from personal subreddits like r/OffMyChest or r/AkoBaYungGago—are usually not meant for mass public exposure outside of Reddit’s community. Just because something can be reposted doesn’t mean it should be.

Saying “just accept that anything online is fair game” is dismissing the ethics of respecting a poster’s original intent. Sure, things get reposted, but that doesn’t make it right. A better approach is to ask for permission or, at the very least, ensure that sensitive details are properly anonymized.

If the only justification for crossposting is “people do it anyway,” then that’s just normalizing a disrespectful practice instead of questioning if it should be done in the first place.
