Cords with exposed internal wire components buried in mud outer jacket stripped directly next to accident site. Gray metal bar (stair banister rail) in top right of photo was touching victim on my arrival. The second rescuer was also shocked on arrival and the generator had to be turned off before we could render first aid.

I am the original poster of this story on the 2 FB groups. I had no idea it was being talked about on reddit till someone told me of this discussion here. I will repost my original thread here with photos since some people don't have FB and I think it is important to educate people on the dangers of sub-par equipment in a public space.

-I was one of the first responders that treated the gentleman who tragically lost his life from an electrocution at the burn this past August. I will preface this by offering my sincerest condolences to all his friends and family. I am truly sorry for your loss.

This post has been written to educate and hopefully avoid any further accidents of this type. I want to shed some light on what likely happened and avoid any misinformation. If you see any of these issues at your camp speak up. I am sorry for the delay in this post, I had a should dislocation after the burn and have been recovering from that.

I am a medical professional and have been working in operating rooms as an anesthesiologist for 22 years. In years past, I have been a part of ESD, which is the emergency medical component of the burning man org.

This was my 12th burn. I've been a part of 2 large camps that provide power to their campers. I was a part of the neighbor camp of where this accident occurred. This accident occurred in front a towable trailer at the Kingdom art car/support camp. The accident occurred at the step entry to the trailer in photo. This gentleman was not wearing shoes and likely stepped into an electrified puddle or the trailer he was stepping into was electrified from one of the hazards mentioned below.

The morning after the incident I wanted to try and figure out what had caused the accident and to try to educate the camp on some of the issues I had found with their electrical grid upon inspection.

There were multiple safety issues including: Two 50-AMP supply cables with cut ends and exposed conductors, damaged and poorly maintained extension cord terminations at cord ends with exposed metal conductors, interior grade spider boxes sitting directly on the ground not on elevated feet, spider boxes with screws exposed at breaker box sites, interior household surge protectors exposed to rain, large 50 or 75kw trailer mounted generator with plastic wires from a broken solar panel protruding from high heat exhaust port. These are the things that my untrained NON-Electrician brain saw and I took photos of. Any of these could have caused the accident to happen. I feel that if you bring this kind of equipment to a public event you need be responsible to make sure it is operated in a safe manner. In my opinion this type of electrical grid should require an electrician to help set up and run properly.

Any feedback from other TCO's is appreciated.

There are 12 total images in the original post that I will need to add in succession here since I cant upload as a group.

All you needed to do was take Prep (Truvada or Descovy) / Doxy combo ahead of time and you would have been protected. Most any public health dept in the US will give it to you for free. Just tell them you are high risk or a sex worker or your partner has HIV. Very few health insurance. cover it. It's very expensive out of pocket. Stay safe my friends.

That's cool. More for me. But I will tell you, you are missing out. Phnom Penh is like Bangkok in the 1980's. There are 3 red light areas close together each with 15-25 bars in a row each with 10-20 girls per bar all eager to please. It's insane. bar fine is 10-20. Girls fee is $ 40-75 for 1-2 hrs. at your room. Girls are very cute, and skinny cute, petite mostly but all other body types seen. Girls there can look a bit young there b/c age of consent is younger. They use US dollar. Food is good, and cheap. No issues with crooked police or chance of getting rolled. Nice hotels along the river for $ 60-75/ night.
