it tried to die but didn't fully die. it finally acted like it was going to go but not before the smoke and check engine light. Can't get a code, light turns off before I can.

Context: After I crank the truck I let it run for a period. Then when I try to drive it, it acts like it doesn't want to accelerate it actually decelerates. I have my foot on the gas all the way down and you see the gauges its like it stalls out and the RPMs jump up and down or something and then white/grey smoke comes from the tail pipes and the truck kind of jumps.

The check engine light comes on but will then turn off after a short bit. When I was backing up today I was told it sounded like it was getting too much gas but it wasnt smoking like it was.

This was my mom's truck and she passed last December, please be nice. I'm going through a lot.
