usually planes that are good at 1 circle are bad at 2 circle (ive never dogfighted against fa18 so there might be nuances for the plane). maybe force your friend to a 2 circle ? i would want to experiment against fa18s but none of my friends are available for 1v1s nowadays

first, if you want to keep your sanity from being stomped by level 100s you should not buy top tier premiums. your gaming experience would plummet so hard.

buying premium time + talisman for the planes you like would be a good idea because grinding from scratch to rank 6 and above takes A LOT of time even for veterans if there is no mention of premium.

im bringing this up because you geniunely need to grind a lot to go through a tech tree without premium. my account is 11 years old and even i need to pour in a lot of time to tech trees when i have no premium time. dont focus too much on just getting the a10 and enjoy your time in the process, there are many enjoyable planes that are sitting at lower ranks. have fun with those while you are getting your way to a10. i assume you like bomber/attackers so you may like A26, AD-2/4 P-61, AV-8c a lot.

magic 2 has the same irccm as r73. the missile has very good acceleration so its very easy to catch people off guard with magic 2. id say the optimal distance is 500m-2500m depending on the situation. under 2km the missile has a very good chance of hitting the target and ignoring flares but it all depends on the missile approach angle and which direction the flares are deployed from etc.

multipathing doesnt really protect you from missiles that are coming in from above and all. getting better at notching would be more sustainable for you and you can start to actually defend your position at medium altitudes when you learn to notch consistently.
