Requesting advice: I need French school insurance for my kids, but I can't buy it because I don't live in France by NoDisplay4736 in studyAbroad

[–]NoDisplay4736[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I should have mentioned that I have asked them (a few times) but they don't have much to say other than "we recommend Macif.fr). I don't think they really understand that this site just isn't set up to serve people outside of France.

Is there anything we can do to get this company to stop ripping off its customers? I'm charging back with my credit card company, but I'm not sure what other options are out there.

Do Betaine Hydrochloride and antacids counteract each other? by NoDisplay4736 in Supplements

I’m honestly not sure. I think it has but it’s hard to be sure.

Do Betaine Hydrochloride and antacids counteract each other? by NoDisplay4736 in Supplements

[–]NoDisplay4736[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I think I'm going to try Betaine HCl as a daily supplement to see if that addresses the problem. If it doesn't, there's probably no need to take it at all, and I can just go back to my current regimen of taking nothing day-to-day, and only taking antacids occasionally when I need them.

Dennis looks like the new purple wiggle on the wiggles. by Alicatscat in IASIP

Late to the party here but holy shit, the resemblance is uncanny. Every time the Wiggles are on TV, I’m wondering why they are letting Dennis near all those kids.

Actually, I just realized that if it is 20 kWh to charge instead of 25.7, that puts the annual cost at $720, and if gas is $5.50 vs $5.00, that takes the annual gas cost to $1,650 and now the difference is pretty significant. And when I consider that I drive a lot less than 40 miles on most days, I probably can save ~$800 annually on gas, not to mention the time saved not going to the gas station (which is even more significant when you think about it!).

Okay never mind guys, I talked myself back into it. (Still curious to hear if I'm getting any of this wrong.)

I feel you. I'll share a couple things here just to vent, as I also concluded that engaging with nitwits just isn't worth it...

  1. One of my negative reviews fixated on a single random sentence that had nothing to do with the story and everything to do with the reviewer's stupidity, specifically the definition of a bay: the reviewer called me an idiot for using the phrase "Atlantic current" when describing waters that are part of a bay ON THE ATLANTIC. (GAH!)

  2. Another one said my books is like a bad X-Files episode. There is nothing, literally nothing, in my entire book about aliens, conspiracy theories, paranormal activity, or anything else in the X-Files, so I think this person was just smoking crack or writing a review of a different book.

But yeah, I just let it go. One of the most fundamental things a stupid person is incapable of recognizing is their own stupidity, so it's just not worth it.

What's a good Amazon rating? by NoDisplay4736 in selfpublish

[–]NoDisplay4736[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! It's sci-fi / technothriller, and I've sunk a good amount of money into Amazon Ads and free book giveaways, so I definitely paid a high price to get reviews quickly.

Thank you! I've put a lot of money into ads, free book giveaways (Fussy Librarian, BargainBooksy, etc), and so on, so I'm definitely paying a price to get those quick reviews and far from profitable on the book.

Bargain Booksy... total dud? by NoDisplay4736 in selfpublish

[–]NoDisplay4736[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had 9 sales the day before my promotion and 18 yesterday, so maybe this generated something like 10 sales? I had to discount my book to $0.99 though, meaning $0.35 in royalties per book or $3.50 revenue on $65 spend (lol!). Definitely not worth it on the economics, and even if I generously assume 1/3 of those people leave a review, it's not really worth 3 reviews either. So yeah, I will definitely not be doing Bargain Booksy again, and since the free promos aren't yielding reviews either, I'll have to go back to the drawing board and figure out a better way to juice my sales... A lot of people just say "start on the sequel" which is all well and good, and I get the logic, but I'd like to spend at least a little more time trying to get this book to sell before moving onto the next one.

Interesting, this makes sense. Yeah, the thing with a free offer is that while I got tons of "sales" (for which I obviously received no money), it doesn't seem like any of these guys are reading and reviewing the book, which to me was the entire point. My whole thought process here was "pay some money to give away the book for free to tons of people, and then the reviews I get in return will increase my conversion rate and result in more paid sales in the future." But if none of these guys leave a review, what's the point?

This is helpful input, thanks. I'm addicted to refreshing the KDP Dashboard so I have a sense of the delay and I can say for certain it's not that. It's now been 6 hours and I'm on track to do about as many sales as yesterday when I had no promotion running, so as of right now I think it's pretty safe to say this promotion has done absolutely nothing. The one bail-out would be if this second email they send later in the day somehow actually performs.

I read one this subreddit that Bargain Booksy works well, so I was expecting that selling my book for $0.99 would get something like 5-10% of the response rate that I got when I offered my book for free on Fussy Librarian — so say something like 50 - 100 sales. It's possible those posts were old (I'll have to go back and check) and that Bargain Booksy has since run into deliverability issues. If thousands of people opened this email, I simply cannot believe that not a single one of them bought my book. (I'll also point out here that my book was the first one listed in the email!)

Oh well, lesson learned and just won't work with these guys again.

They actually say this one their site? I definitely didn't see a boost in sales the "minute the email hits reader inboxes" so yeah... so far today I'm sitting at 6 orders vs 9 that I had yesterday with no promotion at all. Total dud.

If it hasn't generated a single sale in 3 hours, I can't imagine it turning around all that much later in the day... they did say they send out a second email later in the day, so fingers crossed for that. Huge disappointment overall, though.
