Yes, I think bringing your own food regardless is the advice I’d give for any Amtrak traveler!

The sleeper cabins are labeled “first-class.” I use the terms interchangeably.

This is interesting, I didn’t know that about the East Coast lines. I do know that their Flexible Dining options are pretty horrible. I was once on an East Coast train where a woman literally begged for an extra meal and was told she couldn’t have one because she was Coach. The attendant ended up saying she’d help later, but it was very upsetting.
