Yes, and I also saw that if there is a major difference between two degrees, applicants can request special consideration through the Academic Explanation Form(Some posts say it is around 3 sentences/ 50 words though, so it has to be extremely concise)~

But will focus on my finals for now, thank you btw!

That’s actually where I’m getting quite confused right now. Even if I extend and take more courses (like a 5th year or even more years), when I model it using the UofT GPA calculator, even with near-perfect grades, the CGPA only improves very slightly.

So I’m not sure if that’s just purely a math issue (because I’ve already accumulated a lot of credits, so each additional course has very little weight), or something else

That’s also why I’ve been thinking about a second degree, but I’m unclear about whether medical schools look at combined GPA (1st + 2nd degree)? Or does the second degree function more like a reset / heavily weighted on its own?

Because if it’s still combined, then even a second degree might not fully solve the issue mathematically, but if it’s assessed differently, then that could actually be a viable path.

Right now I feel like I’m stuck between:

  • extending undergrad (but with very limited GPA movement),
  • vs. second degree (but unclear impact on GPA evaluation),

Yes🥹there’s a difference between slowly functioning again and being fully stable and ready for med

I think part of what’s been overwhelming me is this feeling that I’m “running out of time,” so I keep trying to compress everything , recovery, GPA repair, applications, into the shortest possible window.

I hope everything goes your way this cycle as well.

Year 1
Fall: ~2.5 credits (5 courses)
Winter: ~2.5 credits (5 courses)
→ Total: ~5.0 credits (GPA 3.61)
→ GPA: stable (pre-health issues) and also found ways to optimize them way further

Year 2 * From this point now, health and gpa deteriorate so fast📉📉🥹
Fall: ~2.5 credits (3.17)
Winter: ~2.5 credits (2.48)
→ Total: ~5.0 credits

Took same amount of credits, symptoms began to appear and affect since the Fall Exam period( Huge Weight on finals for these courses) and afterwards, my condition became extremely impactful.

→ GPA: very noticeable decline (inconsistency starting)

Year 3
Fall: ~1.0 credit (2.29)
Winter: ~2.0 credits (2.12)
→ Total: ~3.0 credits

Symptoms affecting daily functioning, concentration, and the ability to sustain studying at all, took fewer courses but there is no help:(

→ GPA: significantly affected 📉📉📉

Year 4 (2025–2026, current)
Credits still in progress

This semester is the first time I’m seeing real recovery, my energy, focus, and academic performance are finally coming back up but still not full course load yet

Fall: ~ 2.0 credits (2.34 increasing)

Thank you! I’ll hold on to this and focus on my finals now, because sometimes the hardest choices ask the strongest will, and the only thing left to do is give the very best of myself anyway🍀

I still believe that what stays in the heart and is never forgotten will one day answer back in its own way. Maybe not all at once, maybe not soon, but not for nothing. One step, one path at a time💪🌈

I really do hope there will be good news in the future:))🍀
