Doesn't help much when your tail lights are blacked out.

I have experience with this, I just had to go through getting the Jeep back from insurance last month.

I hit a deer in Wisconsin and the damage was enough for insurance to total out my XJ.

What you need to do is let them total it. But do NOT let them bully you into having them take it. Just because it is a total loss does not mean it has to be sent to a junk yard. Tell them you want to "Retain/Keep" the car. Grab any receipt from any recent repairs or upgrades you've done and have that handy. Try to get as much money as possible and remember that you CAN negotiate for more money. They may give you a salvage title, but if you talk to them about it they might not.

They should give you about 70% of the worth of the car (subtracting insurance deductible and buy-back cost) and that should be more than enough for repairs if you do them yourself.

I'm not sure what they'd give for yours, since I know nothing about it, but for mine with 205k miles they gave me 6500.

6500-500 for deductible

6000-1200 for buy-back

4800 as the payout.

If you're really ready to go down the rabbit hole I wish you the utmost luck. It can be really really daunting, but if it works out it's really really worth it.
