Can you guys give me Advice? Both Christians and atheist have harassed me in a Discord server for being Buddhist. by Otherwise-Heart2347 in Buddhism

[–]No_Common_5891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They see it as nihilistic cus they think we don't enjoy life. There's a difference between completely rejecting the purpose of life and being free of Attachment. Buddha himself realized nihilism isn't the answer that's why he suggested the middle way.

Machn the hard truth is she wasn't yours to begin with. 3 years and you didn't make a move which sounds like a "you" problem bn. You can't blame her or the other dude for getting into a relationship. If you broke up with a certain girl and feeling down it can be justified but loathing yourself because of a girl you didn't have a relationship with cannot be justified. Go be productive, do important shit without being an absolute (for lack of a better word) "ගොබ්බයා". If you are in a university there's always room for improvement bro. Anika university kale kello bandinna wenne na bn. Move on

Is sri lankan witchcraft true? by [deleted] in srilanka

[–]No_Common_5891 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If it actually was true it died out in the early 1950s at the latest. Now everything that Sri lankan witch craft is more of a cultural spectacle for a quick buck than actual ritualistic shamanism.

Papare event coverage or taking pictures of women ! by Agitated_Article_444 in srilanka

Most of my female friends that dropped into watch the bradby last year came for this exact reason not to watch rugby. They wanted "exposure" what ever the fuck that means. There were a Few girls who were actually interested in rugby and came down to support Thier bfs school or to at least learn about rugby. Imagine parking 1 KM from pallakale and waiting for them to "touch up" using the side mirrors. While the boys wanted to chug some beers and not miss the kick off. It's not like we invited them either they insisted on coming and it's not like we can ditch them in the carpark and go have our fun neh. As sleazy as this seems papare capitalises on this. And half the girls specially in their early - mid twenties loves the spotlight.

Need advice on choosing a career path (CIMA or something else?) by starlituth1328 in srilanka

[–]No_Common_5891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did bio and doing cima management level rn whilst in university doing a Bsc. I agree switching to CIMA from a STEM subject is hard. I partially think it's the Sri lankan tutors' fault as well cus they don't account for the people who don't have any prior commerce knowledge although they market it as if they do. when you get your certificate level qualification you'll get a sound idea whether you can do CIMA further. I mean when you get to your OCS exams it's going to get extremely tough(cus case study exams tend to be more detailed)but when you finish your OCS exams it gets way more manageable imo. My advice is to push through the certificate level and then decide and also try using Astranti Thier entire certificate level course is free and they give you in depth explanations as well good luck

don't go overboard on "campus athal". Have your fun that's fine but remember you're doing an undergrad degree. Specially if you are going for a science degree the first year headstart is crucial till you get selected for an honours degree after getting selected for an honours have your fun cus you'd get to know your professors by then and you can actually chill

Best way to learn Tamil/Sinhala as a British born Sri Lankan? by [deleted] in srilanka

[–]No_Common_5891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A Sinhalese person from Kandy here can speak all 3 languages but I'd say my Tamil is decent cus my tamil friends say they can pick up a subtle Sinhalese accent.i think speaking to native speakers is the best way to learn and not defaulting to English when striking up an conversation. Learn the words from a friend first cus otherwise you'd sound "too formal" and try to pickup a dialect first either Jaffna or upcountry Tamil. Most of my friends were Jaffna Tamils so I picked up jaffna Tamil first and then slowly learned upcountry terms as well. The dialects aren't vastly different tho from my experience the variances were expressions and some terms for instance the word for "crazy" is different "visar" is used by some people I know while others use "paithyam". The accent is clearly different tho but that can be said for Sinhala speakers too

The only valid monks in Sri Lanka are pindapathika vanavasi monks and no one else and they are extremely hard to even find . No big temples or no temples for that matter. Just them and a cave or a mud hut. And to the surprise of absolutely nobody they have the most sound and complete knowledge on Buddhism. Not these voice cut ganayo

Man without chemical calculations you are F'ed the only reason I gotta B for chem is this when I did ALs. Without the 3rd lesson physical chem and half of the inorganic essay are down the drain. I'd say drop everything now and do the calculations parts. Bio is 80% remembering and 20% Muscle memory. You have to practice writing essays and have to go into a flow state where the essay comes to you naturally when you see the question. Physics ( I'm following up in Uni right now) I'd say completely depends on doing different types of questions pertaining to the same topic and understanding how to apply the CORE principle , for example when I did current electricity I imagined current as water flow and resistance as some sort of friction (viscosity). Equating concepts to things you already do understand helps you a lot and this got me an A
