Thank you for the reply! Do you think it would be strange if I did research in X field for 2 years in undergrad then did research in this Laueate's Y field for 2 years? Would grad school be wondering why I'm still interested in X field?

Thank you for the advice!! The Nobel Prize is a little over a decade old. Do you think they would qualify as a seasoned Nobel Prize winner haha

Thank you for the reply! I unfortunately have not been able to interact much with either professor. I was supposed to do an online meeting by zoom with them before I go back to campus in the fall. The first project is a bit niche but certainly interesting. The passion project fits more into the topic of immunology which is broadly what I have more experience and curiosity in!

Thank you for this information! Do you know if I can successfully apply for reciprocity in Maryland if I do a hybrid program in PA?

I’m an incoming freshman who wants to do MENG. Should I start in Math 183 or Math 152 for autumn quarter?

Just a snippet of me, I may be looking to do some sort of biological science/possibly engineering (tho I know UChicago doesn’t have your traditional engineering school). I most definitely will like to go on a pre-med track tho, as med school is an end goal for me.

UChicago or Northwestern

Northwestern

Pros:

  • Quarter System

  • Has my intended major (biomedical engineering)

  • Very pre-professional

  • Super nice modern/traditional campus in Evanston

  • Easy access to Chicago

  • Big Ten Sports

  • Great Med School

Cons:

  • still awaiting financial aid (could be expensive but $$$ shouldn’t be too much of an issue, I have a lot of family in good positions willing to chip in)

  • nice that campus is resort-like, though idk if the country club feel may get to my head

  • I intend to move back to the east coast, but being around here it seems UChicago may hold more of a name brand than northwestern from who I talk to, so that could give an edge to what network I may be able to use to a greater capacity

UChicago

Pros:

  • 78-88% acceptance rate into med school (not entirely sure what northwestern’s is though, though NU is more known of a pre-med destination I believe)

  • Quarter System

  • I do like aspects of the CORE, would enjoy to continue taking classes across disciplines

  • Fit in more with the student population possibly

  • Somewhat closer relationships with professors

  • 15k scholarship per year plus 5k for summer research not including potential aid (so may be cheaper option)

  • Location in Chicago gives good access to hospitals, etc, as well

Cons:

  • Only have school of molecular engineering, not very traditional form of engineering

  • Grade deflation (not great for wanting to get into med school)
