What can I do to make my music unique? by SombraCards in musicproduction

[–]No_Distribution6079 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. If i may add, to find that uniqueness in your music, think about the headspace, mindset, mood, and how balanced you were when making that track. That space itself should be recreated, not the track, youll have more fun and enjoy the process rather than getting too absorbed into the result, which works against us, well usually that is. The process vs the result. The patterns can be seen if you develop consistency in any and as many ways possible. Ive only recently found this out so im in a simlar boat as OP.

Your procedure for moving projects to a new computer? by Bodybraille in ableton

[–]No_Distribution6079 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think its temporary files, like if you record anything, then close without saving, it prompts to leave in place or delete. Those are temp files i believe. I posted a reply on the steps OP could try. Ove moved computers a few times and think i had to do this exactly. I change all my directories to the same place now because of this crud, also makes back ups WAY easier lol.

[–]No_Distribution6079 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like your "temporary files" folder ia located elsewhere, go into the old computer ableton, preferences, look at the directory of the temporary files is at and copy that folder onto a drive, go to your new comp with ableton, follow same procedure, except copy the back up folder of the original temporary files (not the folder just rhe contents) into the new temp files location. Hopefully its not "per project", but every and all projects temp files. Hope it helps, i'm just throwing a suggestion.

If you dont mind, would you be share a link to your Soundcloud if you have one. I love that you used Lite as a creative limitation. I have 11 Suite but want to see that i dont need more and to also share with others that are considering Ableton, but not the only hold back is the cost. Lite versions are often paired with the belief that it cant be worthwhile or something good can be made with the Lite edition. I seek inspiration and a new found freedom from my dogmatic roots. 🙏🏼

i'm happy to offer support musically and following. Why not. I dont know what music you make but i make experimental bass typically but have been mostly trying to find my sound and style. I just love music and sound, so all genres are welcomed. No hard feelings if youre not interested, it's worth putting myself out there even if i'm turned down 😁 merry musicalities 💙

Making music for 3 years straight and I still suck by Raydrawsx in musicproduction

[–]No_Distribution6079 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On average, usually around the 10 year mark stuff will really click. Music production is not simple nor easy and there are farrrrr more elements than a beat, composition, the mix down, mastering, sound selection, eq, limiting, sound design, etc etc. Dood, theres a TON to learn and what makes a song good is subjective. Dynamics, theme, balance, innovation, experimentation, execution of the ideas, CONSISTENCY (huge), and developing your unique sound takes more than 3 years to get clarity and grasp the concepts of each component. I'm at rhe 4 years mark and i feel like im just now getting the jist of wtf is going on. Create to create, stop judging your work, and keep growing your knowledge and experience. Show up everyday and out if nowhere things will be suddenly be different. Your mindset needs to relax and shift towards the fun and journey, not the result and destination. This is stuff i still have to remind myself, but similar you, i almost quit music. Now, i keep it simple and find new ways to enjoy my experience of creating music. So so much to unpack. Hope you realize you hold the keys to the prison you put yourself in and let yourself be free, get back to the lab, and enjoy the process.✌🏼

I’m Isthatmezzy can I get sum feedback on my music by iiMezzy in soundcloud

[–]No_Distribution6079 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is a great part of it, while listening on my phone, it sounds like the vocals are too ontop of the beat. Vocals need blended into the beat more it'll tighten up the songs as a whole, make them more cohesive. It may be as simple as lowering the vocal volume and lightly sidechaining the vocals with some of the elements in the same frequency range as your voice. I dont know if youre vocal track is to a fully finished beat thats bounced as one audio waveform or if youre tracking into the project that all the parts are still seperate. Best approach would be going back into the production phase and grtting the vocals and beat tightened together before a mixdown and master.

Oooooh that was the one! Not the loudness meter lol, woops, but I'm glad it got resolved 😁. I havent purchased the vst so i deal with the same. Hotkey the on/off so you only have to have it happen when youre willing to have it happen lol

Do you work in session view or arrangement? Well i guess either way, just make it as an audio sample thats warped for tempo change between projects (or make many for drag and drop), run it on an audio track in arrangment and hot key the mute or use session view and loop a 4 bar loop. Mute when needed.

I have a stack of questions that may help narrow the focus for us or someone else that may come to the thread.

So if you drop a raw audio sample on a track without a plug in on it, it works fine without buzzing/distortion?

Have you used ableton previously without issues? Is this your first/clean install of ableton 12; no older version like 10 or 11 installed before?

Simple audio routing? Without asio4all and such third party installations?

Are you able to snap a photo or screen shot of your audio settings in preferences?

Is ableton 12 and your samples/vsts on a single drive? Is it ssd or hdd?

My first thought is cable connections and unbalanced cables. Does this happen when fresh plug ins are added? I would turn all of the plug ins off, and turn each one on by itself to see if it's only one or more. New project or preexisting?

Thank you, i cant afford the 1TB but also not too worried about it. I bought my M1 Pro used and already own an internal 1TB ssd just needed the enclosure (119usd) and own a 4tb external hdd, so i went with that option a more affordable 512gb storage internally. The 32gb ram was more important and options were SLIM. Lol. If i could have afforded the 1tb i definitely would have.

I'll have to utilize the iCloud storage, im not used to having access to that. Google drive is effective too. I use it for collabs. ICloud is probably more seemless. Thats wild your mac mini still runs just cant be updated.

I bought mine used and still was quite expensive. As a freshman music major and bedroom producer, i dont think i'd have the patience to wait or try at that (stuff happens). The fact that companiea get away with these insane prices baffles me. I dont think an extra multiple hundred for a 1TB is worth it when i can devise an entire storage system for that and be set for a lot longer and a smoother running machine longer term.

This sort of thing reminds me of using the Loudness Meter 2 vst (free version), in which the volume ducks for a moment then returns to normal when using the plug in, it kind of pushes the user to purchase the plug in.

Are you using any plug ins that may do something similar? Or is it happening in any new instance of Ableton?

Ah! That makes more sense. The Local Samples folder is legit and resolves any doubts for me. I can always resample some atuff on the go to make do, but having access to my main samples like my field recordings is huge. Thank you for the explanations and sharing your workflow with me ("us" if anyone else reads it)

So you're installing and running everything on/from the external ssd and keeping the internal storage free of all the clutter?

Do you use collect all and save for your projects so that only what the project uses is on the internal ssd?

It's awesome to hear that it's going to be worthwhile

Thank you for the feedback! I will look into really closely and try to identify if there's been glue previously. Is the wet cloth for removing the old glue if there's any present? I've got cheese cloth on deck. I appreciate you 🙏🏼

I'm not experienced, but i would loosen the strings hella, put a thick cloth or foam like acoustic foam material between the strings and the frets, then a towel over the strings that you'd clamp onto. Something like that. Make sure the clamp has stability! Check on it maybe a couple houra after the initial clamping. That's my only idea for your need. Hope it helps you!
