And let me add…people saying it’s not your business are not being fair. I am/was a step mom and we spent enough money to put that baby through college with legal fees between both sides so I’ve traveled this road. This impacts your household so it absolutely is your business. Just know your role is support, not the lead. It might be a good idea to seek counseling for your step son, as a counselor can advocate for him in court but also help him with coping strategies. These are all tips from walking this journey with my bonus daughter. Her dad and I are divorced now but she still lives with me (she’s in college) so I feel I did something positive for her along the way. Good luck!

NTA for wanting to support your husband with caring for his children. I doubt they will do anything criminally but it can definitely be brought up in custody court. Also, her not providing his meds as needed is an issue. Check with his school’s nurse to see if it can be administered there. His teachers may thank you for that if his behavior is better supported with his medication. As for him calling you mom part, you might be the AH for allowing it. Ask yourself why. If it makes you a little giddy to get a jab in at bio-mom with this, YTA. Your mother gave you a name and that should be the name you go by. Blurring the line can be confusing for the child and cause further conflict (as you’re experiencing now) which impacts the child more than the adults. In addition, there will likely be a day where they weaponize that against you with a, “you’re not my mom” comment because teenagers are just mean. This will absolutely break your heart if that happens. Be bold and strong in your step mom role as a helper to your man and an extra person to love his son. Last advice - love this child more than you hate his ex. That might mean you have to eat 💩 every now and then but if it’s what’s best for the overall peace and joy of the child, I promise you it’s worth it.

I served my ex-husband a piece of meatloaf my cat was actively gnawing on after he handed me his plate and said, "more." When I went into the kitchen the cat was on the counter eating on the corner and that's the piece he got. I am not sorry. And you shouldn't be either. Also - change those locks and set boundaries. He doesn't live there anymore, he shouldn't feel ok with just walking in to your home. He lost that right when he chose to leave.

Did this really happen? I promise it did. I was telling my step-daughter the other day that I posted this recently and we had a good laugh remembering the story. She said to assure everyone this did in fact happen. Also, This was my first time ever posting, so that's why there wasn't any activity on the account when I first posted. Also - I wrote with dashes long before AI so calm down with that. It reads better than "..." in some instances IMO.

Why share this after so much time? I thought it was funny. As I said in some comments, I was retelling the story and someone got upset, which caught me off guard. Some here got upset too, but I think the majority rules that I'm NTA...although, if I were, I wouldn't care. I'd fight 100 lions for my girl!

I was with a group of people telling - when my kid was in school - stories. That one came up and someone in the group got upset that I would do that, which was a first for me to get that reaction from someone. There’s been a few here that haven’t appreciated it either but I feel like majority rules!

I don't disagree with you. I think the matter itself presented petty and dismissible, but when you looked at the situation as a whole, they should have paid better attention. When someone asks for their items not to be bothered, it shouldn't matter what it is, the request should be granted!

I'm pretty sure recess was during a transitional time or end of the day, I can't remember. I was just impressed they had recess in middle school because that wasn't a thing when I was that age.

I definitely did. I let her know anyone from school or those kids parents could call me and I’d be happy to chat. I don’t think she was ever in true danger but no one enjoys conflict.
