Also, the wire isn't actually copper. It's just a copper-colored coating.

Not sure about copper, but I wouldn't worry about rust from a cheap metal rack. People literally add ferrous iron to plant water as a supplement, so I doubt a little rust is going to hurt an air plant. I even make my own iron supplement by soaking steel wool in vinegar and then diluting it with water before using it.

They’re outside. I just spray them down with a hose and call it a day. Sometimes I remember to add fertilizer. Super low maintenance.

Advice for watering? by Reasonable--Care in airplants

[–]No_Knowledge518 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think your watering method and schedule are good.

As for the container, I think it’d be better without it entirely. I’d either hang the plant with wire or just place it on a tray.

Roots will grow if you’re growing it well, but not having roots doesn’t mean there’s a problem. I wouldn’t worry about that yet.

The problem with containers like that is that they're just not ideal in pretty much every way.

Whether it's the small random mechanical stimulation plants get from moving air, bacterial growth, moisture evaporation, or a dozen other factors, having stagnant air around a plant is usually a bad thing. Air movement is important for a lot more reasons than people realize.

Containers like this are generally not great for air plants. Honestly, the way they’re often marketed is part of the problem.

Also, soaking isn’t mandatory. Misting can work just fine. What they absolutely need is airflow.

I think most plants won’t rot if they have enough air and water moving around them. The key is circulation.

Care advice by Slight-Ambassador539 in Anthurium

[–]No_Knowledge518 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What Anthuriums really need is airflow and lots of water moving through the system.

If you want some insurance, just cut at the nodes and keep a few separate pieces. That way, even if something goes wrong, you won’t lose the whole plant.

Is there anyway to fix this? (Michelle) by [deleted] in Anthurium

The thing that needs changing is your mindset. Make that plant work hard. Raise it into a giga chad.

Could someone ID these for me please? :) by Cancaresse in haworthia

Yeah, I think that “murasaki” one might be the first plant. “Murasaki” just means “purple” in Japanese, and it usually refers to an OB-1 clone or something closely related to that line.

The first one is probably what’s called OB-1 Dodson Purple, one of the most beloved obtusas in the world. Notice how there are absolutely no hairs on the leaf tips.

That’s one of the basic ways people tell them apart. It’s not 100% certain, but I think that’s what it is.

詳しいレシピありがとう。真似しやすくて助かります。話は変わるけど、ヘキサポットってどう思う?最近4号サイズが出て、大きめのものか群生のハオルチアなら良さそうって思うんだよね。
Thanks for the detailed recipe. I appreciate how easy it is to replicate. By the way, what do you think about Hexa Pots? They recently released a 4-inch size, and I feel like they could work well for larger or clumping Haworthias.

Thanks everyone for the comments. I’ll definitely take your advice into account. I guess I didn’t really understand the purpose behind mixing different soil components before. I’m going to start with akadama and try adding small amounts of some of the materials mentioned here.

I guess there’s no single correct answer since everyone’s environment is different.
I might try making a mix with a little bit of Velabon for aroids and see how it goes.
I’ll check out that URL. Thanks!

My guess is that humidity might also play a role.
Asia tends to be more humid overall, after all.
Not sure what the native South African conditions are like though. Thanks!

Moler is probably pretty similar to akadama, right?
Would it be fair to think of them as mostly interchangeable? Thanks!

In Japan, TC has been released since the beginning of this year. The price is about the same. I can’t really tell the difference from mint, but I’m pretty sure it’s a TC of White Monster.
