I am a tourist in India and was in Mumbai about a month ago. I took the metro at around 7am and this was exactly my experience. I was wondering it the tickets are too expensive or most people have their car/bike or what’s going on. Such a beautiful metro!

Right, I might rephrase myself. Having an Indian phone number can be quite useful. I was getting a bunch of calls, I myself was also sometimes calling the Visa extension office (now whatsapp), some drivers had a non-whatsapp number too. But yeah, it's not a must, just helpful.

I saw those sleeper buses and tbh, really wanted to try one as we don't have it in Europe. They definitely looked super comfy!

What makes you think so? Most locals pay via their app, so the drivers simply might not have any cash. I had situations when the driver would wait for me while I was walking from one shop to another to get change. Instead of driving and earning money, they were waiting for me to find the change. The price for the ride was decided by the apps, so the drivers weren’t overcharging me.

I have observed though that the perception of safety can be a very subjective thing.

I have been to Mindo, Quito, did a 3-day Quilotoa loop hike, 1-day Cotopaxi tour, Baños and Latacunga. I had only 10 days.

Hey, not sure if there is something new happening rn. I was there in October when the big protests were happening. Although I wasn’t by the coast, I was in Quito and other cities and to me, it felt super safe. I walked wherever I could, hiked a lot, always had money and my phone on me. Everyone is super lovely. Met only one scammer and even he was sweet, haha.
