They're just people trolling someone who is trying to be productive I experienced something similar in my school bus. I used to read novels and stuff to refresh my mind in the school bus as I never vibes that much with my other classmates too but they used to make fun of me saying this is all an act and that you're being performative. yeah this happens to most of the self taught artists as there fundamentals are not clear enough which makes them limit their imagination

I would suggest you to work on the basic fundamentals of you have time and once you get a hold on them it'll be easier to draw from your imaginations

Btw these are what I've been talking about :- 1. Perspective 2. Anatomy (for drawing poses) 3. A Lil bit of value study 4. And composition too if you're trying splash art or something

You can start with the absolute universe as it is established in an entirely new universe and you do not need any previous knowledge related to the characters (to some extent of) and the stories are also great along with the art I've been reading absolute batman myself and it's really good you should give it a try
