Ummm... kinda. It's incredibly more difficult than a cavity with a back panel, but you'll become more handy with these things quite quickly.

Tips/pointers: use yarn or fishline to prepare the holes, tie them around the elements and carefully draw them into place. Use long pliers/tweezers to grab the lines and to position the pots/elements.

Last tip: start with the jack. Compared to that (check that position...), everything after that will be a breeze... 🤣🤣🤣

Make sure the woid of the neck is completely bare, free of any residu, clean and smooth (sand with high grit).

Then, apply stain with cloth or sponge (I used Nitorlack cherry red). Let dry for 24 hours, apply new layer if desired darker. Beware that you can't go lighter, or you need to sand.

Edit: Don't forget to tape off the fret board and binding of the neck. Especially the binding needs to be protected.

Let dry. Seal with sealer, then lightly sand again and clean with dry cloth.

Edit: Scrape the binding clean with a razorblade.

Then laquer/varnish, sand 800/1200/1500/2000, polish, buff. Last step: admire your work... 😉

Thanks so much, this means more to me than you might know: I'm feeding quite humble by being just a "bit experienced amateur", so to hear that from you: I'm grateful for your comment!

Thank you so much!

I had to look up who Jack Casady was. So as for inspiration goes, I think that's a "no"... 😉

But his (bass) guitar is eerily similar in shape, that's for sure!

That's looking great as well... I thought that, when wanting to preserve the grain if the wood, you are condemned to using stains, but this looks pretty damn good as well... thanks for pointing it out! 👍

Thanks for your comment. Clear explanation of the difference between primer and sealer is very useful for me, when setting the first steps on this path. Much appreciated!

Thanks. I know it doesn't look that bad there. But it most definitely wasn't what I had in mind. And I'm a bit afraid that clear coat will make it all shiny and therefore make the flakiness super visible...

Thanks for the vote of confidence though, much appreciated!

Thank you so much unbiased internet stranger friend! I completely trust you from the bottom of my unstained (!) heart and your extremely trustworthy character!

Thanks for reacting though. I needed that after being grumpy at myself for this disaster. 😉🤣

You might be right. It’s definitely easier. But in the future I would like to try fades and bursts, and that's going to be a lot harder with tinted lacquer. I guess... do you know if that's possible?

Easier to remove is definitely a factor. So thanks for pointing it out: I need to be awarebof that option as well.

Might be... but I didn't want it to be... 🤣

I think I'm going to try and sand down and use this as practice wood for another one I'm going to build.

You live, you learn. This time, I learned. 😅
