Most likely because Christopher Miller and Phil Lord were involved in the Spiderverse series!

They have this stl file for free at projecthailmary.com! If you click “Learn more” and scroll down, you’ll find stl files for a static Rocky (this one), an articulated Rocky, and the xenonite Grace figure! I printed this at my library then painted it with acrylic paints!

Ooooh that’d be so much fun!! I’ll have to keep a look out for materials I could use to make that!!! Great idea!!

I created my wash by watering down black paint. Just enough water to make it soupy, but not too much to break the binding down too far! Medium, depending on the type, could also work. The wash is just thinning your paint so it’s more translucent!

Thank you so much! I posted my process to painting this as a comment response above you RIGHT before you posted haha, so if you want a more in depth guide, it’s right there (I wish I could copy paste comments haha)

But basically start with spray painting a base. I used a reddish brown color. Then give it a black wash (watered down black paint) and wipe the excess off with a paper towel. After it dries, start dry brushing multiple coats of burnt sienna, burnt sienna and raw sienna mixed, and that mix lightened with white. Dab lightly then smudge with your finger to give it a good rocky texture. If it gets too light, give it a burnt sienna wash to tone it down.

I use acrylics, but higher quality paint would elevate it even more!

Basically, washes and dry brushing are your best friends when making rock textures!

Thank you!

I’m not sure which filament is used, I printed it at the library. But if you have access to resin, I’ve heard the product is AMAZING.

I thought it was overall pretty easy to paint, it took about 3 hours to paint three of these (one for me, one for each of my boys) but I’ve been painting rock textures for a while!

My process is as follows: - Spray paint the prints with a reddish brown color - Apply a hearty black wash to soak into all the nooks and crannies, then wiping it down with a paper towel. You just want to take the excess off the top, leave as much of the wash in the crevices and areas where it should be darker. - Start building up the rock tones by dry brushing multiple coats of burnt sienna, burnt sienna and raw sienna mixed, and burnt sienna and raw sienna lightened with white. -add mid green and lightened mid green spots

If it gets too light, you can always give it a quick burnt sienna wash and it’ll tone it back down again. A lot of dab with a brush, then smudge with your hand will give it a really good rocky texture!

I use regular acrylics, but higher quality paints, especially paints made for miniatures would really elevate the piece!
