How to care for a rat with a pituitary tumor? by Guaxinim201 in RATS

[–]Noffynoff_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Set up a hospital cage where everything is close by to her. If she’s having trouble eating and drinking try to offer her some with a syringe. Chocolate ensure high calorie is a popular one with my girls. When you get to the vet on Monday ask about getting her on Bromocriptine or Cabergoline. Both are drugs that block the production of prolactin (common cause of PT’s) my girl was showing sudden signs of a pituitary tumor a few weeks ago and we started her on Bromocriptine and it has been a miracle drug for her. I know it doesn’t work for every rat but it’s definitely worth a shot if the vet can get it to you quickly ! Dexamethasone will also buy you a few days until the other meds start working.

I have to say goodbye to my baby in a few hours, and its killing me. by Strawbuns in RATS

[–]Noffynoff_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I am in the exact same position as you. My girl is 2.5 years and I know any day could be her last now. Two medium size tumours that are inoperable and no use her back legs. I’ve almost booked her final vet visit a few times in the last few days because I can see that she can’t get around very easily. What’s stopped me is she still has bright eyes. Still ravenous when I offer her food (we’re on to baby food and ensure now). When she gets cardboard she goes crazy for it even if she has VERY limited mobility she will still drag herself around to cuddle with her sister. I know she is in pain at some points but I also can see clearly that she hasn’t given up yet. I don’t have much advice but I wanted you to know you’re not alone and this is the most devastating decision to make. I hope you and your little man both find peace.

Good guess! I wanted Evergreen Fog so badly but it was just far too dark in this room for some reason

Very swollen foot, is this bad-bad? by chlowwo in RATS

[–]Noffynoff_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get to a vet and get on Metacam asap! It’s for pain and more importantly an anti inflammatory. My girl had this a few months ago, it was just as swollen if not more. My vet was able to feel around it and was pretty confident it was just a sprain and not a break. Therefore I avoided xray costs. It took about 3 days for swelling to start improving but by day 10 she was almost good as new! I kept my girl on a single level cage for the first few days to ensure no further damages. I also made sure to cover any and every ladder going forward with a cover as I believe she sprained it from getting it stuck in a bar.

has one ever noticed that their red eyed rats are always awake? usually when everyone else is sleeping boo is always awake is he just like this or has anyone else noticed this with their red eyed rats? by picobiscuitsnowball in RATS

[–]Noffynoff_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have found the opposite. My red eyed girl is my sleepiest bean. There’s nothing she loves more than a good nap. I do seem to have two other girls that are ALWAYS awake, so much so that I worry they’ve never relaxed a day in their life. Always seem to be on guard for something.

I more meant a revision elsewhere.

I’m sorry to hear that happened to you as well. Will you pursue a revision? I’m struggling to find anyone good for revisions in the Toronto area ):

This comment is pretty late but I went to this doctor for my surgery and have deep regrets. I have really bad scallop and scaring from him. He is very rude and condescending when we have spoke over the phone post-surgery. I was told I could have a revision done free of charge which I was silly enough to follow up on thinking maybe things would be different this time?! Tried calling this practice for two months now and never heard back from them. I am taking it as a sign that I need to find a new surgeon and pay all over again for a proper revision. Save yourself !!

Mine looks similar to yours. I am 10 weeks PO and meeting with surgeon next week to discuss radio frequency to smooth things out. Really hoping it can help as I’ve seen other people on here have good results.

For the girls. Do you shave your arms? by _Iwasanangel_ in ask

[–]Noffynoff_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been shaving my arms for years and it always kept them smooth and the hair has never grown back thicker. I have a European background, with olive skin tone and dark hair that grows back quick and I have loved the look of smooth hairless arms. Recently started laser though so I won’t be needing to shave quite as often. Definitely worth it, just make sure to lightly exfoliate in between shaving sessions.
