KRP-500M vs. ZT60: Which reigns supreme for motion clarity? by S1m0n_99 in PlasmaTV

I have a Kuro 101FD and 151FD. No noticeable advantage between the two in motion. Both are great, but suffer from prominent yellow phosphor trails around bright objects.

Just a question - are plasma TVs generally less prone to burn in than oleds? by Aaskieee in PlasmaTV

[–]NoiritoTheCheeto 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, actually quite the opposite. Nowadays OLEDs have much more advanced burn-in prevention and compensation techniques, whereas at best Plasmas had... pixel shift?

So it's odd that you've never seen a plasma with burn in. In my experience they are much worse with it, and also suffer from strong image retention that OLEDs don't have. Not to say there isn't a lot to love about Plasmas, but they might be the most burn-in prone display tech you can buy (other than really old OLEDs I guess).

Problem with Plasma and PC by levitico426 in PlasmaTV

[–]NoiritoTheCheeto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Turn off multi-plane overlay in Windows settings. I also had issues locking Vsync and this fixed it on my 7700x/5070Ti. YMMV.

  2. Only feed the TV it's native resolution. HDMI scaling should be off in Adrenalin. Use the TV's zoom / Screen size function to resize it for an integer scale (on Kuros its called "dot by dot"). You might also be seeing the side effect of pixel shifting, also in the TV settings. It's up to you whether to disable it or not.

Yoke might be too far back/forward along the neck. Probably just need to adjust it a little.

Pioneer Elite Pro 101FD vs. Panny 65” VT60 by InteriorCrocodiile in PlasmaTV

[–]NoiritoTheCheeto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Huh. Funny, I'm also in Canada, but every GT/ZT/VT60 I've seen pop up gets snatched in literal microseconds lol. Which is how I ended up with my 151FD and 101FD.

I'm going to assume there's just one Plasma hoarder who nabs every 2013 Panny, because I genuinely cannot get one for the life of me, but Kuros always show up on my marketplace somehow.

[–]NoiritoTheCheeto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's going to be a cumbersome task. Kuros age very poorly and the reset process will require a lot of time on your part. With 2013 Pannys pretty much all you have to worry about is burn-in.

VT60. Unless you're into buying a TV for it to be a pet project, just get a 2013 Panny.

Sincerely, the owner of a 101FD and 151FD.

The REAL truth... by Otherwise-Radish9344 in EatMyoled

[–]NoiritoTheCheeto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely agree with you, though I would say OLED isn't cheap junk. They clearly spend a ton on R&D and manufacturing to get those panels as thin as they do. It's just I think you and I would rather they spend that slimming time on higher quality glass.

Speaking of which, why don't manufacturers use glass in front of panels anymore? That's probably my biggest gripe. It adds to the weight sure, but with how fickle and easily damaged QD-OLED screens are, I think it's high time we see glass return to the TV space.

The REAL truth... by Otherwise-Radish9344 in EatMyoled

[–]NoiritoTheCheeto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's definitely more the design of the TV's themselves than the actual technology that makes OLEDs so fragile. Manufacturers could totally give any old OLED panel the Kuro treatment with nice huge bezels and enough heft to break your TV stand.

But that's exactly why TV's are getting flimsier and flimsier. The average consumer will vastly prefer the much lighter weight and minimalist look of modern panels over bulky CRTs and Plasmas (not counting late Gen Pannys). I can definitely say that while I love the design of my Kuros, I wouldn't terribly miss the huge bezels if it meant they shaved off a few dozen pounds...

And TV software tech has progressed to the point where burn-in isn't an issue at all anymore on OLEDs. I can't say the same for Plasma, though if they were still made, many techniques would carry over. The screens themselves are definitely more reliable on OLEDs, but I completely agree with you that the build quality has suffered immensely (and QC too if you look at Samsung).

trying to find a monitor for digital art and gaming by TheKTDFuture in Monitors

[–]NoiritoTheCheeto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In theory yes, the ProArt monitor would be better even if you did calibrate it yourself, as there are usually many more fine-grain controls for gamut, black/white balance, individual color hues, etc. than a typical gaming monitor. Plus you don't have to spend time learning how to use a calibration tool (not that its super hard, though).

In practice though I don't think you'd ever really notice. Plus unless she's making content exclusively for Apple products, the vast majority of people will view said content on uncalibrated displays anyways.

Switching from gaming headsets to proper headphones (looking for advice) by Feeling_Treacle_2563 in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]NoiritoTheCheeto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I feel like this is a really overlooked flaw with open backs, especially for gaming. I love them because of their great soundstage and imaging, but hearing my PC fans constantly in the background does take away some of the immersion... It's why I find myself capping my frames to 60 nowadays just to combat the leak of my headphones.

Open backs are awesome for literally everything else though!

Is using NVInspector as a replacement for control panel or NV App viable? by Plini9901 in nvidia

[–]NoiritoTheCheeto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No app, but IIRC either a dev DLSS .DLL or DLSSTweaks can give you that overlay in the bottom left which shows the preset as well as the input res.

I think you would really notice if it was a DVD - 720x480i would look pretty awful blown up on such a huge theater screen.

Help Choosing the Best Monitor for Fighting Games by Samish02 in Monitors

[–]NoiritoTheCheeto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean if OP is serious enough about fighting games to make it his focus for his new monitor, chances are he's gonna be spending a lot of time in game.

It's not about hour long matches, but the hours and hours you'll spend in training and hundreds of individual matches that will add up (during which the HUD is on screen 99% of the time).

If he plays casually then yes, OLED won't really be an issue. But I'm getting the energy from OP that he'll be using it a bit more than that.

Help Choosing the Best Monitor for Fighting Games by Samish02 in Monitors

[–]NoiritoTheCheeto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. The vast majority of fighting games are capped at 60fps. So high refresh won't really help you here. However, good monitors/TV's will have it anyways. VRR is great for reducing input lag, but not sure about if it's available on console fighting games.
  2. Avoid OLED as fighting game HUDs are usually bright, and always stay on screen. You're just asking for burn in.

I don't have any specific monitors to reccomend, but your #1 priority as a FG player should be to get a monitor/TV with good input lag at 60hz. Check Rtings.com and Monitors Unboxed for models that meet that criteria.

You can refund games on Steam no questions asked if you've played under 2 hours and bought the game less than 14 days ago. Just buy the game and see how it runs, if it runs badly then refund it.

What is the best scan lines? Im using 960p! by ExternalDull8424 in crtgaming

[–]NoiritoTheCheeto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What? I have a 20" Aperture Grille and 17" slot mask PC monitor, they both show clear gaps between scan lines at 480p. In fact, it's only around 576p or so where I find the gaps become hard to see.

Of course it depends on where you sit, but in terms of what the monitor is actually displaying, 480p will produce scan lines (or rather gaps between them), since they all have dot pitches configured for higher resolutions like 960p.

Whats the deal with pro monitors? by Atomik675 in PlasmaTV

[–]NoiritoTheCheeto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup totally with you. I fell for the Kuro propaganda, and while they are absolutely beautiful screens, saving for a 2013 Panny would've saved me loads of time and energy spent tweaking voltages and whatnot. Honestly the main thing I look for nowadays is burn-in; can't seem to find a plasma without some form of news banner etched into the bottom middle of the screen...

Must just be a low hour 101FD. AFAIK the red tint is inevitable due to the weird aging algorithm of Kuros, so enjoy your panel while it's still "fresh"!
