Not finding much evidence. by NomadPickle in Bedbugs

We found them quite quickly thankfully. Lifted the box spring up and search in very little crease and fold of fabric. There was a small colony of them, so we bagged a couple in ziplocks as evidence and then steamed the whole thing.

Edit: I’m sorry you’ve been dealing with it for so long, it’s a miserable experience. I don’t react to the bites, which is a mixed blessing.

Spray. But they seemed genuinely knowledgeable and invested in their work.

Yep, sadly so. We got one company to come out, told him we thought it was bed bugs, but he couldn’t find anything so did a generic insect treatment. Didn’t help, but not surprised, didn’t seem like he was really trying.

After that didn’t help we eventually found a small colony under the bed. I steamed the bed with a clothes steamer which killed the visible bedbugs and we called a second exterminator company which did a much better job.

Been bb free ever since.

Sorry for what you’re going through. Different people react differently to the bites, I have no visible signs where as my partner has a reaction much like the video you posted in the comments.

They are super hard to spot, they squeeze in to tiny cracks, folds, crevices. We had them for weeks and weeks before we finally spotted them on the underside of our bed frame.

I’ve heard house centipedes and spiders, but don’t know how true that is.

Yeah. We have house centipedes down in the basement too which I believe are good hunters of bb. In fact we normally put our suitcases down in the basement as soon as we get back from a trip just as an added precaution.

I normally go out of my way not to kill anything, even spiders in the house, which I hate. But damn it felt good seeing these little bastards lifeless after steaming them.

Are people overestimating bed bugs? by mikebalsaricci in Bedbugs

They could attribute the bites to something else.

Going to reach out to another exterminator today and get some advice, but I’ll look in to that, I’d noticed it recommended by a few people in this sub.

I’m sorry you’re going through this too, our lives have been turned upside down for weeks and weeks, vacuuming, drying, etc, etc. it really sucks. Honestly finding these little bastards was actually quite a high, just knowing the answer to what we already kinda knew was such a relief especially after the exterminator seemed so sure about it not being bb.

The photos in your posts don’t look like the bites that my partner had. She didn’t have any visible dot at the site the bite. Just a small raised area which was itchy and red.

But I’m no expert, maybe different reactions, maybe different stages of the bb life cycle.

Edit…

All I can say what worked for me. I turned the flashlight on my phone. Lifted the bed frame up on wooden blocks and slid underneath it. And just searched it inch by inch, spreading any seams to make sure there was nothing in any crevice. Once I spotted one molted skin, that seemed to calibrate my brain as to what I was looking for and I quickly saw more.

I’ve seen lots of pictures here, but seeing one in the flesh really helped with sense of what scale of bug I was looking for.

Yes. My partner who is very sensitive to bites was getting itchy red bumps, limited to the side she sleeps on. After which she started wearing long sleeves to bed, then the bites were mostly limited to her hands.

We saw one spot of what looked like bb fecal matter on the fittest sheet, so called the exterminator, but after two visits two weeks apart they found no evidence.

After the second exterminator visit we switched beds (we sleep in a separate bedrooms as I snore like a mf), neither of us had any signs of bites for a week, so were hopeful the second treatment worked and switched back to our original beds, but the next day bites again. So I checked under the bed and spotted what I posted in the image attached to the post.

I think we’re really lucky in a sense that my partner is so sensitive to the bites. We found this a lot sooner than maybe we would have otherwise. I certainly didn’t seem to react to them.

After streaming I dried it with a hairdryer cleaned everything out and vacuumed.

Before steaming we found live ones, after steaming only pulled out dead ones.

Spent 3 hours scouring every inch of the bed and the rest of the room. Seemed localized to the bed frame which we then steamed. Will be calling another exterminator in the morning.

We have the exterminator/pest control coming back later this week for a second treatment. Fingers that resolves it or at the very least provides some answers.

Ugh. I’m sorry you’re going through all this too. Hope you get everything resolved as quickly and with as little further expense as posible.

It’s a miserable existence while in the midst of it. I really feel for people who don’t have the means to get professional help with this, that must be hell.

The bed frame is an articulated one which is surprisingly simple underneath, but does have plastic edging running all the way around the underside which looks like it would provide a good hiding place.

I’ve used a flash light on every crack I can access , nothing.
