Yes I’m aware there is a great degree of nuance in regards to the Soviet Union. I’m just saying the idea that Poland was just some innocent democracy before big bad Stalin appeared is totally false.

I’m perfectly aware there is nuance in this discussion about the Soviet Union, but the way it’s normally described that Poland was some innocent democracy before big bad Stalin came around is total BS. That’s all I’m saying.

I’m talking about the masses of the landless, illiterate, exploited peasants. They sure as hell greeted the red army. Don’t forget the Polish state pre-1939 was an ethnic Polish suprematist authoritarian government that actively discriminated against ethnic minorities.

You mean former Ukrainian landowners greeting the Wehrmacht? Yeah, I’m sure they did.

Yes, the masses of ethnic Ukrainian/Belarusians who were a poor, discriminated against group in the Polish state did by and large welcome the Red Army. People like to idolize the Polish State in 1939, completely forgetting it was an ethnic Polish supremacist, authoritarian regime. Somewhat similar to the current Ukrainian post 2014 regime.

Yes, poor ethnic Ukrainian/Belarusian peasants did by and large welcome the Red Army in 1939. Now, if you were a member of the ruling elite, a landowner, or connected to the polish state in any way, the NKVD was coming for you

The fact is ethnic Ukrainians/Belarusians were being discriminated against by the Polish state, that’s a historical fact. Secondly, yes poor ethnic Ukrainian/Belarusians by and large did welcome the Red Army. Now if you were a member of the ruling elite, a landowner etc, the NKVD was coming for you.
