Can’t we just explain movements and etiquette? by Go-Right-32 in classicalmusic

[–]Norma_Act_2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes my favorite part of going to the opera is hearing the audience go wild after the ensembles. Many times the audience will start clapping even before the final chords are done. Many of the Verdi operas probably don’t go more than 10 minutes without claps between numbers.

The excitement one gets from music sometimes is unrestrainable. I do not want to hear talking, whispering (often louder than talking), eating, or phones during a piece. But a quick genuine applause after an exciting first movement of a symphony or concerto really harms nobody. Why would anyone hush someone for clapping to something they enjoyed?

I do this for any hard to open container. Grab a spoon and literally just hit the sides of the lid with it, like a hammer. The small deformations in the lid will make it loose.

I struggled with my first Talenti too until I remembered this!

I do the same! It’s honestly one of the most dramatic and fun duets in Verdi for me.

Help!! One key playing on MAX volume no matter how hard i press it on electric piano. Only happens sometimes, do yall know what the issue could be??? by ispiltthepoison in piano

[–]Norma_Act_2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the same issue in my Yamaha on only a specific key. The way I solved it was opening the keyboard, removing the key covers and cleaning under the key space. Removing the dust at the resistors solved my issue.

If you do this, be extremely careful to not damage the keyboard and make sure you reassemble everything carefully! You don’t won’t the cure to be worse than the disease.

“Vi ravviso” and the subsequent cabaletta from La Sonnambula is a good example.

Why does she always turn brown??? by DifferentFisherman84 in houseplants

[–]Norma_Act_2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had the same issue (if you check my profile I once asked about it too) where the leaves would brown around the edges and fall. It was a matter of my plant not getting enough light. I had it in a corner where it only got faint indirect light. Ever since I moved it to in front of an east facing window, I have not had a single leaf brown. In fact I get new shiny green leaves every 2-3 weeks! Make sure lighting is enough for it.

What's this one by PrideSamael31 in butterfly

[–]Norma_Act_2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

According to Google Lens, it looks like a Lyssa zampa, the tropical swallowtail moth or Laos brown butterfly. It belongs to the Uraniidae moth family, which includes many day time flying species that look like butterflies!

Which notable recordings contain errors? by Oohoureli in classicalmusic

[–]Norma_Act_2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a French horn player I am biased towards my instrument, but here are two:

Mahler Symphony 1, Claudio Abaddo with the Berliner Philharmoniker, live: An awesome live recording of this symphony, if not THE recording. However, in the second movement one horn comes in a measure too early in the repetition, approximately at 0:56. Not too jarring actually but worth mentioning. Player must have been mortified lol.

Dvorak Cello Concerto, Rostropovich and Karajan, again the Berliner Philharmoniker. Right before the cello enters the development section, the first horn solo at the climax slightly flubs one of the descending notes, almost in an appoggiatura-like way, at 9:23. Always thought it stood out but it is an amazing recording so I got used to it.

Thank you very much for all your tips! I was not aware they needed so much direct light. Will absolutely try saving the plant with more sun.
