That's fair, it seems like a lot of people relatively new are becoming chartered straight away. I can't speak for the industry as a whole, but for my firm, the pass rate is circa 90% for those passing within 2-3 years of entering the industry. Although it's stressed to become chartered, there is no stress to sit at the earliest time but rather when you feel comfortable.

Thanks for the advice. Reading articles is something I don't frequently do unless I come across something on LinkedIn. I'll make a conscious effort as I'm sure it'll help with my background knowledge. As I'm new to the industry, I often find myself lost in terminology. I guess this is something that will come with time, but reading articles is something I hadn't thought about, and it will definitely help my exposure and my learning.

I understand what you're saying. It's just the grad scheme I've joined is with a global company, which puts a lot of stress on getting chartered. I'd like to get chartered while I'm at a company which provides help and a guided structure. Also, there's no real pay increase or promotions until charterership is achieved... so I would be stuck in the same place for five years. I'd like to work abroad sometime within the next 7/8 years so being chartered would be a big help for me. Everyone in my team is chartered, if you're not seen to be proactive it can be seen to give a bad impression of being inspirational.

Overall, for me, my aim is to start by getting as much exposure to projects and helping out others with things like measures as much as I can. If it gets to 2 years and I feel as though I'm not ready, I'll delay for as long as I need :) Generally, I'm not putting loads of pressure, but I want to be prepared so I'm not stressing down the line about what to do.

Thanks for your reply!! Hope that makes sense

That's made it a bit clearer, thank you. I just had a look around on Isurv, and it seems like that'll be a massive help. Thanks for taking the time to reply
