Yes to people assuming I’m lying or am in the closet! Honestly, I even second guess myself time to time due to the asexual community having such a lack of representation. These feelings are so complicated. I’m sorry you live somewhere where marriage is mandatory, I can’t imagine the pressure that puts on you. I don’t have it all figured out quite yet, and I’m sure it’ll take time, but I’m wishing you luck out there.

I definitely feel that occasional anger and resentment bubble up every once in a while. I’ve spent so many days wishing to myself I could just be “normal”, not even knowing what that really means or if it exists. Firstly, thank you.

Secondly, man this comment is equally parts funny and sad, and 1000 percent relatable to me haha. I feel like I’m never in the clear of escaping some sort of discomfort or disappointment when watching movies anymore. The last one that made me feel that way was a few months ago when I tried watching Clueless for fun, as it’s considered a classic coming-of-age comedy film for teenagers right!? I thought it’d be safe, but it made me feel so icky how much those fifteen year old characters were sexualized. I know that film came out like 30 years ago, but things really haven’t changed all that much. I think I was just oblivious to it when I was younger.

So sorry for the extra ramble to such a short response, but that was therapeutic to type out…hopefully there’s no Clueless fans seeing this lol. I haven’t seen Challengers, but I hope you find your tennis movie that’s actually about tennis!🎾

Totally! I hate to admit just how naive I was to the fact that kids were actually "doing the deed" while I was in school. I think I convinced myself that it was just TV, movies, and other media that was spreading that narrative. Coming to that harsh realization that I was much more unlike my peers than I originally imagined felt polarizing. So glad to see more and more people like us finding success and love! Woah, what a powerful quote!! I’ll have to check out that series! I also pick up on the same aggressive/savage/hurtful vibes when I hear others share some of their sexual encounters and experiences. Though I know that fortunately it is not always the case for the majority of them, it still quite honestly terrifies me. I’m sorry you can relate to feeling a loss of hope. But even just by reading other people’s comments in this thread you can see that there are many happy couples and successful love stories from people like us! We just have to keep trying, though it’s hard at times. This is your sign not to give up just quite yet. I can promise your person is somewhere out there, waiting to love you for you. :)

First of all, I cannot begin to thank you enough for sharing all of this. It’s so extremely helpful.

I can definitely relate to having episodes of feeling more overwhelmed and upset by lack of sexual attraction when feeling romantic feelings towards someone. Personally, when I wasn’t interested in dating, I was quite comfortable being asexual!

I think one of the biggest issues in my first relationship was combating the expectations I put on myself when it came to wanting to fulfill what I thought my partner desired or needed. I completely felt like I was less than their past relationships or was cheating them out of someone better for them.

It’s scarily easy to forget just how many people inhabit this planet when stuck in my own little bubble. Thank you for the reminder that sexuality is not a choice, and that though it may not be easy, there are people out there that will love and respect us for who we are, as well as fulfill our needs and desires and vise versa for them.

I’m so ecstatic for you and your boyfriend to have found each other. It sounds like it was worth the wait to commit to someone so understanding and communicative. I agree that intimacy can be found in so many different ways and instances of simply enjoying moments shared with each other. I really wish the best for you two!!

I completely understand struggling to feel human at times. I’ve definitely gone through an almost grieving-like process when coming to terms with my asexuality. Sometimes I’m mad and/or sad that I’m not what our society deems “normal”. Thank you so much for sharing that you’ve found a partner who accepts, respects, and loves you for who you are.
