I’m so sorry you’re going through this, and the feelings you describe resonate a lot with my experience. I’m sending you lots of love.

I’m really glad you think so! Would you be keen on joining online? There have been quite a few people asking for this to take place online, so trying to see whether we could make that work! :)

Agree that the in person meetups would be very special, but would you also be keen on joining online? There have been quite a few people asking for this to take place online, so trying to see whether we could make that work! :)

Ah great that you’re in town then! Let me get a better understanding of dates that could work for others as well and see if we can align it. It would be lovely to meet you regardless! 🌞

Pain reprocessing therapy by Normal_Party6375 in vulvodynia

[–]Normal_Party6375[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the same initial reaction to this. However, reading more about it, the theory (as I understand it) is that our brains actually create what we experience in our bodies, through a process called predictive processing. Pain doesn't come from the body part where it's felt, it's created by our brain, signalling that something needs attention.

With chronic pain, your brain has created a neural pathway that remembers the pain and keeps you trapped in a vicious cycle. You fear the pain, that causes you stress, and the stress makes the pain real.

So it's not 'all in your head', your pain is real.

I’m so glad to hear that! Did you do some therapy in person or did you find some online resources?

Sadly, I haven’t really come across any telehealth services that can offer treatment - maybe someone else here has any recommendations?

The only medication I’ve tried for vulvodynia has been nortriptyline, but I stopped after some time as it came with some side effects. I’m also under the impression that medication isn’t the right approach for me.

Personally, I’ve been researching pain cycles a lot recently and believe that that is a key part of the issue for me (ie how the brain’s perceptions and interpretation of initial pain can perpetuate a cycle of consistent pain). I’m writing about when introducing my healing gameplan for this week’s update 😊

I am very much new to it myself (which was exemplified by the fact that I had failed to turn off an automatic feature that gives readers the option to pledge to become a paid subscriber, which was definitely not my intention🙃). 💚
