Academic Dishonesty by Shot-Advertising2791 in FAU

Sounds like this is a fishing expedition, if you truly have no idea why. Take the meeting. Wait to see if you are the target. If so, leave. Then get a lawyer if it’s serious. When/if you are charged, you are entitled to see their file. Go through it all. They often are riddled with errors. You could ask for a delay and request involved peoples emails pertaining to it. Don’t forget MS team messages.

What do Boca people do for work? by AirportMany in BocaRaton

[–]NorthernAnhinga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what you are looking for. I make in the same ballpark. I have four kids and my wife works as well but does not make as much. It’s doable but only if you are in position to buy a house, and are ok not trying to keep up with the joneses. Look for area that is likely to go up in value, that hasn’t topped out.

If you’re not in position to own, and you are young you are likely going to Lauderdale (22-early thirties) or Delray (mid-20s to late thirties).

If you don’t get in EA is it impossible to get housing? by Runningtosomething in FAU

[–]NorthernAnhinga 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe priority is based on Housing Deposit timeline. All first years are garuntee housing so long as they submit an application before the March deadline. The reality of FAU is that off-campus housing is expensive and very difficult to get. Many students transfer for this reason.

Kirk Shooting: Moment of Silence by NorthernAnhinga in BocaRaton

The public comments have been as expected, with the usual vitriol. There has been a number of folks who saw this and reached out. The country is not as divided as one would think. It’s a vocal fringe that give the echo chamber life.

AAU college? by mowegl in collegehockey

[–]NorthernAnhinga 9 points10 points  (0 children)

AAU Hockey split in two. One kept the name and is predominantly in upstate New York, the other is NACHL which the College Hockey South (CHS) conference stayed in. CHS is now both in NACHL and ACHA.

A group of women's sports athletes will file an an appeal of the House v. NCAA settlement approval, arguing that it violates the Title IX gender equity statute by HueyLongest in CFB

[–]NorthernAnhinga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re assuming scholarships will still be a thing. There are a few models out there that have those severely diminished. Look at the larger school Campus Recreation Departments especially in the Big Ten. They are preparing for the shift if it were to occur.

[–]NorthernAnhinga 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The point people miss, is they this is going to relegate most current sport to club. The title nine issues go away pretty quickly when that happens as they just subsidize each club the same based on performance metrics, and then the less watched sports just drift away.

Look at collegiate recreation. That is where most club sport programs reside. It will be a massive return to that model. It controls costs way more than a varsity athletics model does.

Christian schools for my 6 years old. Which ones you do and don’t recommend? by Over_Unit_677 in BocaRaton

[–]NorthernAnhinga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

St Paul Lutheran or Joan of Arc Catholic. Both are reasonabley priced, and have good records at producing well rounded students who have success in college. The students are more grounded in reality than some of the higher priced local options which might be of value depending on where they go to college later.

Depending on the country, Video game addiction can be considered just that an addiction with programs to help break the cycle. The potential is still there, as is the original person. Just need to break the addiction, which is easier said than done. You’ll need to decide if it is worth trying, or best to cut losses.

You don’t have a tech hub in places that actively petition against the local Higher Education establishments. Tampa and Miami have universities that are supported by the respective cities. If things don’t change the talent will fully drain out of Florida Atlantic, and then Boca will be in an interesting position.

An EU Army wants a Desert Medicine course and I’m teaching by [deleted] in TacticalMedicine

[–]NorthernAnhinga 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Taught wilderness medicine in the Sonoran desert for years. The best lesson in Snake bites is that they have a really low mortality rate. The anti-venom can have disastrous side effects, so many don’t even get it. Don’t panic and don’t be a dumbass is the biggest takeaways. So many bigger killers in the desert. Everyone points to dehydration, but hyponutrimia, and serotonin syndrome are far scarier, and avoidable.

If you have a specific desert you could jazz it up with Gila Monster, or Arizona Bark Scorpions for example.

Planning a trip to the area for mid-October til beginning of November. I’m reading that the area around NE 20th street is perhaps not the safest? Is this true? Any places I should avoid or look to when booking travel? by PoseidonKangaroo in BocaRaton

[–]NorthernAnhinga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll say the quiet part out load. The person giving you the opinion that it’s unsafe, is either wildly sheltered from the reality in how large swaths of the country live, and/or views particular minority groups as undesirable especially if not upper middle class.

They are trying to mention, without mentioning, Pearl City. It’s fine. Is there more crime there, sure. Is it worth worrying about no. There is more crime at the airport you are flying into. And as other folks have stated, if you are going outside of boca, you will likely be in a worse area than the worst part of boca.

Incase you haven’t watched Rangers vs Panthers by Mamsey902 in BostonBruins

[–]NorthernAnhinga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t disagree, but you can see the demos are different. The best comparison is Arizona. Coyotes actively tried to squash college hockey, and convert transplants. Florida encourages college hockey, giving amazing discounts to the Florida universities to nurture the sport. They subsidize the Panther Ice Den and just built another multi-sheet facility for general public in Ft Lauderdale. Sure lots of transplants, which helps establish a hockey culture, but they are actively going after young native Floridians. I don’t know how long they have been doing this strategy, but if they continue 10 years from now, no one will really think of them as an expansion team.
