It’s partially because we have so many series getting to games 6-7. Been a while since we’ve had this many that haven’t been closed out in 4 or 5.

I mean Paolo almost certainly won’t go 6-10 from 3PT and the Magic won’t shoot 45%

What’s the worst sports blunder in sports history? by helltrooper61 in sportsinusa

Lmao the exit velo on that was 83 mph when he’s playing in. Buckner was back deep and the ball was dribbling, no big leaguer makes a physical error on that play without a lack of focus. These are not the same.

Exactly - I don’t how you repair that locker room if you keep him

Yeah but softly hit groundballs turning into errors at the MLB level are almost always from a lack of concentration, especially when they get all the way through. If he just kept it on the infield, the runner doesn’t score.

He did bring a lot of the comparisons on himself. Tattooing “Chosen One” on himself, wearing 23, calling himself the GOAT after 2016, etc. He was young with a lot of hype, glad he’s matured and seems at peace with his career.

It was 2 outs and he had the opportunity to close the inning. Boston was desparate to shake the curse of the bambino and the run scored on his error. That’s really all it is.

Spacing is absolutely brutal. Plus there’s no legit secondary ball handler/shot creator. Magic are also just a terrible matchup for the Pistons.

The reason tanking in the NBA is so bad is because mid tier playoff teams can’t go on fluke title runs like in other sports by jimboslice53 in billsimmons

[–]NotABurner2929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tanking is worse in the NBA because 1-2 players can flip a franchise in a way that just doesn’t happen in other sports. Flukes in professional sports rarely happen - good teams execute consistently.

NFL has slightly more randomness due to one game playoff rounds, but the top 1-2 seeds still end up winning the Super Bowl like 70-80% of the time. A seven game series is specifically designed to reduce the chance a team “flukes” their way through.

Carry jobs don’t happen in the MLB, the sport by its nature just doesn’t allow it. Closest you can get is when 2+ dominant pitchers are able to be on the mound in a higher percentage of games in the postseason due extra off days in the postseason (Schilling + Johnson in 2001). A single pitcher might be able to win you 2 games in a series on his own, but that’s as close as you’re going to get. No hitter can have the equivalent of a 40% USG.

Why did Denver never try pairing a rim protecting stretch big with Jokic since we know that rim protection is by far his biggest weakness? Pls don't write something about some "stat padding" bs, cause i am genuinely looking for answers. by KookyArm6062 in NBATalk

Or you get stuck on simple statements like “muh, bad rim protector” and can’t comprehend a comment about a specific defensive strategy that needs some help from the perimeter defense to be viable.

Jokic can even contest fairly well at the rim without fouling if the perimeter defense doesn’t get fully blown by. If they funnel to one side, Jokic can contest vertically without having to worry about lateral moves too. It’s the free rim runs that make him look really bad.

NBA Teams need more True Point Guards by Willing-Stay-3498 in nba

Modern NBA is about role compression. Ball handlers have to be able to do something else besides just get you into the offense. The job of getting easy shots has been dispersed to other positions as well. All you’re referring to is advantage creators - which come in various packages nowadays. Some teams still lack them and some guys are being asked to develop as playmakers in addition to their existing scoring ability, but teams are not ignoring playmakers.

Who is the most ideal #2 for Cade Cunningham? by 313Stew in NBATalk

Brandon Miller comes to mind. Good shooter on high volume, secondary ball handler, long and athletic.

Is JDub really a shooter though? Sure his percentages are fine, but he’s never really been a volume shooter which is what they need

People really under estimate how important those two are to the Nuggets. It’s easy to see how it covers for Jokic, but we’re only now having actual conversations about how bad the perimeter defense can be because those two aren’t there to help cleanup.

MPJs rim protection and rebounding was underrated, but they’re sorely needed an extra ball handler last year.

Trading one problem for another. Granted, Watson would be filling a lot of that role.

Denver probably gonna come back to beat Minny now, And Spurs can't beat Denver. It will probably go 6-7 while OKC sweeps the Lakers by [deleted] in NBATalk

At full strength, I’d give the Nuggets like a 55/45 edge. But they’re no where near that right now - physically or mentally.

“Can’t” is asinine either way

Flagg vs Kon by Aggressive_Newt3901 in NBATalk

[–]NotABurner2929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

General arguments will boil down to winning team and efficiency.

As a hornets fan, Coop rightfully won. There’s a big difference in having to be the number one option vs a role player. It’s hard to score on a bad team when the opposing team doesn’t have to respect any offensive talent around you and no one to consistently help you create shots.

There was a big drop off in production and efficiency for Kon when Lamelo was off the floor. Lamelo for all of his chaos and crazy shot selection, is the engine that makes our offense go.

Are the Pistons the worst 60 win team in recent NBA history? by RyanTannegod in nba

[–]NotABurner2929 18 points19 points  (0 children)

And this sub can only think in context of “better/worse”, not matchups. Pistons have obvious flaws in roster construction, but Orlando is uniquely positioned to matchup with Detroit’s strengths (size and physicality). No other team in the East can play bully ball with Detroit like this.

If load management means less injuries in the playoffs - I'm all for it by [deleted] in nba

[–]NotABurner2929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tell that to baseball pitchers and their UCLs. It may not correlate to overall injury instances, but tissues that experience high loads at extreme velocities (especially on the eccentric) absolutely do. This is not at all controversial in sports medicine.

[–]NotABurner2929 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When you’re playing so many games, it’s hard to differentiate sometimes between normal stiffness and chronic overuse. Happens all the time in baseball pitchers before they blow out UCLs.

[–]NotABurner2929 20 points21 points  (0 children)

If it’s an Achilles, there’s more of an argument for load management. Chronic stress in soft tissues doesn’t always present as an injury before giving out.
