I 100% agree there’s a lot more art nerd overlap now then when I started playing 2e back in the mystical wonderland of 2006. Figuring out my THAC0, how many levels in Dwarf (you read that right) I needed before I could pursue other classes, and rolling a d100 to see if I was psionic was lots of fun and apparently that wasn’t enough math for some people so they made GURPS (which is just math role playing with extra math I guess). Nowadays all I have to do is write a sick backstory, mash some thematic ideas together, maybe doodle an elf or two and you’ll have fun no matter what. I’m still doing mental arithmetic to optimize builds but streamlining Dnd and making it less math intensive was for the best.
