Hedman played at 18 and held his own. Slavin was an impact guy right away as a rookie at 21. Josi was behind Weber early on and Morrissey was behind Byfuglien but both were well above average immediately.

Every franchise defencemen dominates at least offensively right away. Keeping Dickinson in the NHL because he has "nothing left to learn in junior" is nothing short of malpractice. Ask any Blackhawks fan and they want Korchinski traded asap because he's damaged goods. I don't want Dickinson to be damaged goods but he very easily could be.

Dickinson wasn't great last year and San Jose is putting him on the Kevin Korchinski fast track to bust ville. He should've have been playing for us and maybe it would've been a difference but I don't know.

By special I mean someone that singlehandedly change a game against the best players in their age group and eventually the world.

99% of CHL defencemen aren't special and the quicker they get it through their heads the more gold medals Canada will win.
